was fitting better mudguards on my Bootleg commuter last night and dropped the rear wheel out for better access. After tightning the bolts up, picked up the rear and watched the nexus 8 throw all the gear changer rings on the garage floor! After 20 minutes fiddling I became a Nexus god! 15 miles today and working sweet!

oh, and not having to explain why you're wearing shorts in December when it's only 3 degrees out.

really nice morning - frost on me 'at and chin whiskers too! Only spoiled for the first 5 miles after accidentally clipping a bunjee round the rear brake cable and holding the brrake on - should have used the fixed!

I haven't changed the axle ...yet. It's still fitted with a QR at the moment! allbeit one of the 1/2 turn cam ones. I think after a couple of rides, I'll have to stick something more solid in there, but I'll see how things go for now.

bikepusher - seeing as though I came across 37 bikes (about half of them complete bikes, some just frames) parting with things is not something I do well, or often. Will bear you in mind if hell does freeze over though.

I have a matching front wheel laced with a 1957 dynohub - not sure that will make it onto the project though

Was just wondering if anyone has found anything interesting in your garage/shed lately. I was rooting around earlier and came across a 27 x 1 1/4 wheel fitted with a flip-flop hub that I didn't know I had. Will be part of my next-but-one fixed conversion.

I've just used a front wheel with a disk mount as a rear today in my latest project. Went together well with a little cold setting of the rear triangles. Even made my own fixed gear by modifying a sprocket off an an old casette. Seems to be OK so far.

if you gently roll each tool in cotton wool, then in lightly oiled greasproof paper and place them in an old drawer with pots of salt in it, they will last forever - or you could do what I do and chuck 'em in a heap in the corner!!! Never han one fail me yet (apart from through misuse!)

believe me, this one is a real 'babe' compared with my 'experiments' I'll have to post it in the projects section as suggested.
