I just got back from a 9 day tour from Amsterdam to Ireland on my alu/carbon road bike, doing pretty much what you've described above. I bought a QR based pannier rack and a handlebar bag. There was about 7 kilos in each pannier plus a sleeping bag (which I never bloody used). There was no tent involved however.
I think the important thing is to research the weight limits of your wheels. You and all the stuff you want to carry needs to come in below 100kgs because this is the usual wheel limit.
p.s. The rack is a Axiom Streamliner Road Deluxe Rear Rack. However the brake mount snapped on the penultimate day so not sure I'd recommend it...

That search thingy/link didn't work for me but there's the Rides and Races sub forum which has listings for this Friday (Critical Mass) and Masks NSEWhatever ride. Hover over "Forums" under LFGSS above and you'll see all the subforums.
Or as some other kind person will no doubt point out UTFS :)

This lists some/all of the outdoor table tennis tables in London. Not too many near the Thames...

I bought a State fixie not that long ago and having spent a fair amount of time riding through this exceptionally wet summer. I've noticed again and again that there is water in the rim of both wheels. There's enough water that I can hear it sloshing about when I start off and it leaks out of the holes for the spokes.
I've never really thought of wheels as being waterproof but at the same time, I've never encountered anything like this in 20+ years of cycling. I'm worried about corrosion of the wheels and tubes. Has anyone come anything like this? The bikes under warranty so my next stop is State Bikes but thought I'd ask here first.

There was a couple more people with cameras for sure
Yeah, I'd be one of those :) I just popped down for a couple of hours to watch my first track race. I was very impressed. Next time I'd do an induction and see what it's like on the sharp end.
It's taken me a little while to get them online but the photos are online now...

For anyone East not wanting to head as far south as Brick Lane I'm planning on meeting people on the corner of Balls Pond Road and Essex Road at 8am. It'll take just over an hour to get to Richmond Green from there...

Is anyone heading to richmond from Hackney?

That's the same time as the Oxford ride, so you might want to consider another time...
Good point! And I want to go to that ride (though it could be fun trying to get back with Great Eastern) . However I'm not free any other day so unless people want to do another evening then it looks like this isn't going to happen... Arse!

OK then peeps, how about Saturday morning 19th June (the last day they will be on the streets) starting at 11?
Of course, the easy option as I mentioned last Saturday is just to wait for them to all be herded together and see them at Westfield or Chelsea Hospital. But where would the fun (and fatigue) be in that? :)

Yep, despite that nasty little downpour this is still going ahead. I did a reconnaissance ride last night and this morning and I think it's fair to say that there's definitely a shed load of 'em. Really looking forward to it now though!
We'll be rolling at 20:00 sharp. If you're late we will be swinging by Parliment Square again arnd 20:20 but you'll need to be infront of the square rather than the usual meet spot at the back.
I'm still planning on getting to Parliment Square around 7:30 so looking forward to seeing you all then...

so what are we doing then? Is there a route? A plan to hunt these elephants?
We hunt from Parliment heading west through the jungle as far as Holland Park. Then head east, staying north of the river as far as the City marsh lands. Finally we track them south as far as Elephant & Castle (oh the cliché) before finishing back at Parliment square via the South Bank.

Quick, the elephants are becoming extinct and if we don't do something about it then they'll disappear! In fact, according to my sources they'll disappear on the 4th July 2010.
So I suggest doing our bit by hunting down as many of them as possible and capturing them (in pixels).
This will be a social ride on Saturday evening 5th June meeting at 19:30 in Parliament Square for a socialable drink before leaving at 20.00 (sharp). It'll finish when all the outdoor elephants within zone 1 have been captured. That should give us two hours of daylight to capture the majority in daylight and the rest in the lovely hue of sodium arc street lighting.
The full map of elephants is here: http://www.elephantparadelondon.org/images/elephant_parade_london_routemap.pdf
