@greenhell and others on the nodder conversation...
To me the nodder thing is a bit of fun, as it always is to play with stereotypes and pigeon hole people. I don't really have anything against them; very low down my list of annoying road users, but, other than of course bobbing their heads at speed as if it'll make a difference, there's really only one thing they do which pisses me off.
I'm very careful to overtake safely, sometimes waiting several minutes for a good opportunity to do so smoothly with plenty of room... all the while of course looking behind me to make sure there isn't another cat6 warrior like me going past. So it's discourteous when they pull up ahead of me at the next traffic light and make me go through the whole thing again.
Some favourite nodder things:
- Do you take the bus when it's raining?
- Have you invested in fluoro everything but still use a crappy 99p rear light with an almost dead battery?
- Does a squeaky chain not bother you?
- Do you ride on flat ground in the small ring?
- Does your bike get left at your office gathering dust clogging up the bike room all winter?
- Do you ride in lycra running trousers blissfully unaware of the builder's crack you're displaying?
- Do you take the bus when it's raining?

@hugo7 Assos all the way for socks here. With SIDIs that have lots of holes, I wear Early Winter up to 16C, then the Mille. The Intermediate is good but if it's too cool for the Mille then the Early Winter is fine for me. They last a long time, and can cope with being washed a lot. No holes yet, but I did buy a bunch of pairs during sales. Ideally don't tumble dry them.

I couldn't get to an advance stop line / bike box today because there was a policewoman standing in between the two lanes of stationary cars I was filtering through, ticking off a driver about protruding into the ASL. Luckily I was able to brake in time not to hit her. I thanked her, but liked the irony.

Ski gloves can be expensive too - I give you Arc'teryx.

The thing it does really well is help you down a mountain. It's a wind breaker as well as being waterproof. It was cool enough up the Tourmalet on the Etape 2014 but warm enough (with arm warmers) to get me down it while other pussies took refuge in a makeshift shelter.
Frankly though it has to be very cold for me to prefer wearing a waterproof jacket on the bike than not. The Rapha jacket doesn't fix that - it's still like wearing a bin liner above 10C if you're pedaling.

Thanks for that.
