Hi, when I put the chainring on my BB, the inside part of the spider touches the frame.
Do I have to find a spider that connects the chainring from the 'outside'.
Would this not be a problem with a singlespeed chainset?
In other words, can I get away with purchasing a cheap road crankset from somewhere or do I have to get a proper singlespeed? Thx.

Hi, just saw this on ebay. Anyone have any experience of it? Would it be OK to put on a conversion I'm doing. Ta.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/46-tooth-alloy-singlering-chainset-crank-for-bike-cycle_W0QQitemZ270419466776QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR?hash=item3ef6419a18

LMAO - I just been going through all this over the last few weeks.
You'll have to do your research on Sheldon Brown.
If you want a fixed gear, get a BB with width 107mm or 110 thereabouts. Also ensure you sort out the tapering question http://www.sheldonbrown.com/bbtaper.html - this is important because otherwise your chainline will be messed up.
Good luck.

Hi, just wondered if anyone can recommend a singlespeed/track chainset.
Velosolo has the Lasco Track and Singlespeed Chainset, which looks OK, but I'm really looking for something cheaper.
In the past I've converted road chainsets but, whilst cheaper, this can prove a lot more hassle in the long run...chainline issues!

Hi, further to my post below I got a new BB (110mm instead of 127mm) and so the chainring/crank is much closer to the frame now. However, I'm uncertain as to how much room I have to put spacers on the rear hub. I only need about 3mm probably but the threads on the Ambrosio hubs are not very wide and I don't know if there'll be space for spacers.
If anyone has any advice on this, it'd be appreciated. Thx.

I had a fixed rear wheel on a previous frame. I purchased a new frame and wanted to use the same set of wheels (+cog) from the old frame. In order to ensure that there'd be no issues with chain alignment, I checked the width of the BB on the old frame and purchased a new one with the same width...the old BB measured 68-127mm.
Now, having put together all the parts on to the new bike, the chainline is well out:
I'm a bit confused as to why this is. I think maybe it has something to do with the tapering on the BB perhaps...meaning the chainring won't go closer to the frame???I'm also concerned about whether it will at all be possible to get chain alignment with this frame. The chainring on there at the moment is a 48T. If anyone can suggest anything that'd be appreciated.

This is the frame I'm trying to fit the bb to: http://www.lfgss.com/thread34309.html
I was told that it is British 68mm.

Hi,
I'm currently trying to fit this BB:
It's the 68-127mm size. The fitting is correct but for some reason it won't thread on. I'm worried that by forcing it too much it might damage either the frame's bb thread or the bb itself. Any ideas? Thx.

Hopefully that image will clarify issues.
The chainring/crank arm is right up against the frame i.e. there's no space at all between the outer edge of the bottom bracket and the chainring/crank arm.
Now, the spider rubs against the frame. Hopefully you now see the problem.
