I'm not sure what you guys will be doing for locks but I'd rather not drag the Abus chain all the way to Brighton if I don't have to.
Me too. :(
Got a big heavy Oxford chain to lugg around. Last time to Southend it didn't really help. My arse was killing me.I'd rather not take it, but I have no other option...

You think people who rob fixed gear bikes from the streets of East London don't have the internets? PM Velocio and just get your username changed.
Good point =)
They must do their research.Valecio? The only name I can find that comes close to that is Valerio, do you mean that?
No posts though, you sure it's that account? -
Your wheel is buckled and can be trued with a spoke key (or a combination of bashing it on the ground and spoke key if it's particularly bad).
The more often a wheel is buckled and trued the weaker it gets... after a while it's better to get a replacement.
*Ah, a fella (I think) called arvy directed me to a lovely website bicycletutor.com, been having a browse through there. Great stuff!
I think I'll go out and buy a Spoke Key in a bit and give it a try. =)*
Homophobe ;-)
That response got me cracking up.
I'm no IT security consultant but registering your government name with initial as a forum ID is probably not a great idea?
Yeah, recently I've kinda realised that sometimes it's not good. My name pops up all over google from various websites. Not good because some things shouldn't really be shared.
But why do you think it's not a good idea? It's only a Cyclist Forum :P Not a forum for theives.
I think I may create a new account someday.

{EDIT} I should really tell you specs, it's a MB, 26" Wheels. {edit}
So, I go to ride my bike today, wheel is fine.
Lock it outside for 10 minutes. Come back and joyfully take off on my bicycle. Why is my handlebars wobbling?
My wheel is frikkin bent! Only thing I could think of is someone purposely bent it?... Or somehow got bent whilst riding, but I went over nothing suddenly hard on my way.
I've checked to make sure nothing may be causing it, but the frame of the wheel is definately bent.
So it's in no condition to cycle. Is it wise to try and correct the wheel or just buy a new one?
I've got an old wheel handy I can use for the Brighton cycle (TOMORROW), which I think is rather straight. But I don't particularly want to use it. Plus it's not quick-release, which is handy incase of a flat or maintenance.
Anyway, anyone know any decent places to buy a nice wheel from at an exstonishing rate?

If I remember correctly, you ride a geared bike around London, isn't it? In that case you don't need spare links; just take the broken link out and the derailleur will compensate. Obviously, you only wanna do that once or twice...
True, I never even thought about doing that. I do ride a geared cycle yeah.
I think I'll get my hands on some spare links though. I don't really like cycling with any lower gear, it's horrible. You have to pedal too fast to get anywhere :PIt makes me want to convert to a fixed gear since I never use any other gear, unless it's some extremely steep hill...
How would I go about doing this, and is it possible? Would it be better?

I've lost one of the levers, thankfully it wasn't the one with the allen key on it.Hmm, there seems to be a bit of mixed views on the subject. I'm gonna get my hands on some links, just incase. You never know when your chain will snap.
Thanks for your input peeps.

In the last month, cycling about in London, I've noticed so far 3 people's chain just suddenly snap in front of me.
It makes me think what the hell? I'm kind of worried about this happening to me, since I usually cycle at night and go long distances. If that did happen, I'd have to either be lucky enough to find a 24hr Bus or walk it back.
I'm fairly new to being a passionate cyclist. I even had a dream recently that my bike was F@£k'd and woke up feeling sad... (I'm sure a lot of people are that attached to their bikes)
So, what are the chances of your chain coming off and why does it happen, could it be due to putting the chain through strain when cycling up hill?
Does anyone carry around spare chain parts? All you need is one or two links right?
I've got this kinda of swiss-army knife tool thing, but it's just full of allen keys and other little cool tools to help repair your bike.
There is this bit where I think it's for the Chain. -

Does anyone know of any MBk Trails around London or somewhere near London atleast?
Somewhere full of trees.
I've been through Putney, Kew, & Kingston forest parts. But the only joy you get is the thrill of it being so dark you can't see your own hands, and the bumpy/rocky surfaces. Can be rather scary at night. Does anyone cycle through there at all? I've never seen anyone apart from Campers/Fishers beside the river.
I would say something like this YouTube - Extreme Mountain Biking Mt.Fromme
But that's a bit too extreme and I'll only end up in tears.

The road to Brighton is much hillier than to Southend, Martin. Don't let that put you off, though. Even if you don't make it all the way back, there are plenty of bail-out points in the shape of railway stations.
I'll still try and come then, I think I'll be alrite.
If I were to do Southend again, I'm sure it'll be a lot easier for me since I've been training oftenish after that event.
The worst thing about that Southend ride is my arse was in pain & the roads looked like they would never end.I've noticed such a performence/stamina boost lately.
I compared myself now to when I first started cycling earlier on in the year.I'm quite happy with the difference =)
Anyway, this ride will be a good laugh.
I'll bring a Camera.

anyone wanna ride back?
Last time I went to Southend, I didn't want to ride back.
But that time I had to luggage a few things that weighed me down, and also my tires wern't in a fantastic condition for performence/durability.
But I've got newer, harder & thinner tyres now.And I hear going to Brighton is no where near as bad as going to Southend. (Through Essex that is)
So maybe, I'll see how I feel =)

I really don't want to post it, to let someone know how to stole a bike
but I think we still need to avoid it."Two of them were in tears, they were really really bad about it because, people develop such an attachment to their bicycles"
Man, I've only been cycling for about 5 months. I'd cry if my bike was stolen. It's not expensive, but I love it to bits. It's a large Carrera Subway, but a bit modified for endurance and speed. Also it's really light.
I think the reason why I care this much about it, is because I got it 2nd hand when it was quite damaged. And I knew nothing about Bicycles at the time so I spent my free time fixing it myself. I felt quite proud I did =)
Whenever I know I'm going to need my Lock, I have to drag it around with me. It's a really heavy chunky chain. It can make my journey's a bit difficult at times, I really notice the difference in performence.
It's an OXFORD Chain & HD MotorCycle Disc Lock.
Anyone got their view on this Chain & Lock?I would happily get a new one, but I can't really afford the funds right now...
But I can't risk losing that bike... Although it's possible to still break through the chain with heavy force I guess...
What is wrong with the people in this world :(

lfgss will not be held liable for any death or injury if you get lost on the NOS Ride resulting directly or *indirectly *from the the purchase of the said piece of crap
END OF DISCLAIMER
Oh, nah haha. Although I've been itching to know how fast I commute on average, I bought it to calculate the distance really. I don't want to be spending 20 minutes reciting my route on a map when I get home :P
Hopefully I don't get excited down hill and try go as fast as I can!
I'm usually a sensible fella.I hope it comes in time for Sat, should be attending the Brighton night cycle.
just wait till it's fitted and you find your first down hill just remember to keep your eyes on the road NOT the speedo
i bet you try and go as fast as you can just to get a good reading on the speedo
Great, I nearly ran over an old lady a few weeks back.
It was a red light, so she decided to walk in to the road about 5 meters before the crossing. Just because the cars are stationary doesn't mean there aren't anything else on the road.
She had the cheek to turn around and give me an evil glare.
Old hag.
