Warning! Small wall of text approaching! I don't possibly mean to speak for everyone but if I use "we" in a situation you don't agree with then let me know and I'll include you out next time :)
The Brighton polo experience isn't the same as London. We play once a week for enjoyment and we have a good laugh too. I don't think that we want to get all serious on it and make a bid for the World Champs just yet, as exciting as it would be to host such an event. I would think of a tourney here more as a fun thing that we could do to generate a bit of buzz, both for our own polo scene and the game at large. I suppose at this stage I'd just like some new players and to have the ability to form a league in the future. If that's not enough to get on the stage of world polo then so be it.
Whilst your comments are appreciated flickwg (Seb?) you don't play polo with us. I've seen you twice in the whole year since I started. It grinds me a little bit that you state your case so matter of factly and imply that our ideas (the Brighton polo players') are under-ambitious - not to mention your final words about us "wanting to represent" and "needing training" could be construed as a bit rude. We make no claim to be able to throw down with the guys in other scenes and I was on two teams that were squarely beaten in the two tourneys we entered last year. I'm not bitter, I'm still a beginner and it made me want to improve. You could write this all down to a lack of seriousness and committment but, it's a game I enjoy, not work. If you think you can do better then please do, our group is not in anyway a clique or a gang, and we would welcome your knowledge, ambition, skill and above all your participation.
I'd say that Brighton Polo is still very much in its infancy. We're gonna try for a bit of a recruitment push over the summer and hopefully that combined with the general rise in awareness of the game might see the scene develop. A small scale tournament would be great as a first try, I'm stoked to still be playing the game and even more stokederererer to be able to put on a fun event for people.
See you on the court!

In In In!
This has been on the cards for ages, it doesn't need to be a big fancy thing - it'd just be great to get all the boys and girls down for a sea-side knees up.
I think later is better due to the increased likelihood of sunshine, we all know how glorious this town is in the summer!
I think booking the courts is possible through the council, they offer that facility on their webshite but PP is conspicuously absent. It's our home court so I believe it should be held there. We'd have to get some boards down for the inside of the fences and corners but it's eminently possible.
Nick was saying that he had the connections with the other south coasties, Bournemouth et al. I'll tap him up on FB just now and see what he says.
Build it and they will come!

You've obviously missed your calling Danny!
Due to a suggestion by Tim I've gone and made a goddamn tumblr page for Brighton Polo, ain't I? You can see it at brightonpolo.tumblr.com
There's not much on there at present but the login details are available to anyone that feels like posting. Match/Sunday reports, photos, musings, links to hawt fixies and trashtalk all welcome!

Hiya Woody! Nice to hear from you :)
Polo will not die in Brighton, I went all hyperbolic for a wee bit as I was disappoint at 4 weeks of shit weather. We had a bloody decent session last Sunday and we're gonna start a recruitment drive for the summer. My ideal situation is to get enough teams together to have a league, although Brighton is a flaky haunt for many flaky people I think the addictive nature of polo will see that goal realised eventually.
It'll be great to have you back, a font of knowledge and experience as you are can only be a good thing!

Hi bicycledan! Do come along to polo on Sunday at Preston Park - we aim for a 1pm start but stragglers arrive any time after that.
A fixie is certainly not essential for polo, in fact a lot of players prefer freewheel and the relative merits of the two is something that can be discussed with great gusto :) As Tim says, you are welcome to borrow a bike for a few games if you'd rather not dive right in on your own. Polo can cause a certain amount of "wear and tear", shall we say...
Ju - It's all gravy, I've had my fill of tournaments for the moment. Just gonna concentrate on my skills and hit them up again in the summer. I can only take so much disappointment and injury ;)
Tim - "...Thursdays as soon as it stays darker later" - you did mean "lighter", didn't you? That or you're a proper closet emo scallywag

Hee Hee, seeing this bump made me laugh. The sun threatens to poke its head out and everyone is back on their bikes looking for shit to do!
Rich has said he knows where my last pic was taken so until he sorts it out then the challenge still remains. As staircases are rare in Brighton and Hove (strangely, given all the hills!) and it's immediately off of a busy thoroughfare it shouldn't be this hard to find!
If no one has it in a week I'll put one up that's easy so we can get the ball rolling again, how's that? Or just go on to another without finishing this one, I don't own this game!
