A brigade of policemen at the big junction half way down the mall on RLJ watch.
I got half way across the junction before I noticed them (they were cunningly disguised as day glow commuters), braaaake, casual trackstand... whistling the Great Escape...Noticing their stern gesture to come hither, I gave a lighthearted "good evening chaps!" and promptly got a fine.

Well I brought them off here, so not sure what they were originally cut for.
As they are, they're about 2-4mm too long for both my 58cm frames, so may very well fit a 59.heya, i'm very interested in the forks. What size frame did they come off? I have a 59cm ST frame that i would like to put them on, but i haven't actually got the frame with me, so i cant measure the steerer length...

Oh actually, i forgot to tighten my cleats once... that was great fun.
Traffic lights again, 20 shameful seconds in the road under my bike figuring out what the fcuk just happened and struggling to unstrap my shoe and get my foot out.
I wouldn't have blamed a driver if they called my retarded that time :(
Oh well, lesson learnt.Tighten your cleats, kids!

Ah, okay I see what you mean now - this isn't countersteering though. Countersteering is a short, sharp tweak off the handlebars to throw the balence off center in order to innitiate a lean.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CountersteeringWhat you're talking about is just moving over to get a better line?
By countersteering you can take a corner a wider which makes the turn less sharp which allows you to take it more upright.
Think of a bus/truck goung round a tight bend, it swings outwards first.

I had some dozy Dorris strolling across the road with a mug of tea in one hand whilst on the phone yesterday. I mean who the hell crosses the road holding a mug of tea? I'm not sure what her game was but I do know she go the fright of her life when I avoided her by sheer mms.
I saw a tv program once about a guy with a rare muscle spasm which could only be tamed when he was holding a mug or playing the flute.
Could well explain it.
She didn't have a flute about her person by any chance did she? -
The nipples are 12 mm, first 4mm are unthreaded. 32 spokes, and I'm a fairly light rider.
I've compared some spares and I reckon I have at least 5 mm still threaded on the worst of them. They're holding their tension, so I think it will be fine temporarily until I can rebuild it.Thanks for your advice guys.

After messing up my last rear wheel in a worrying incident with a 4x4 (she was on the phone), I decided to make my own new wheel.
The exact spoke length I needed was 293.6, the closest my LBS had was 296mm. Sheldon says "Generally, I round upward to the nearest available larger size", so I hoped they would be near enough.I've built the wheel, but unfortunately - being too long - some of the spokes have extended past the thread, so the nipples are screwing a fair way into the unthreaded body of the spokes.
Is this just plain dangerous, or will they hold no problem?
I've given it a quick test ride and it seems to be strong.
Although I've been careful about spoke twist and have stress relieved the spokes extensively, it's still pinging a bit. Is this normal for the first ride on a newly built wheel?
Given it a few skids with no trouble, but the thought of it collapsing in traffic makes me want to double check. -

Isn't counter steering just a means of leaning the bike...?
Steer right > bike banks left = you're still end up leaning and still have the problem of pedals nearing the floor?
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Admittedly they are only 165's but at least im a fairly short person. I know people 6"4 who ride 165's because they are scared of pedal strike, on a geared bike!
As Mechamorgan just mentioned the secret to riding with a very low bottom bracket is countersteer. Ive never done it consciously it just automatically happens when approaching a corner you feel is too tight. I do the same on any bike actually as it reduces likely hood of sliding out of a tight corner which is surprisingly easy to do, especially with leaves all over the place!

If you did cycle off, do you think they'd just leave it or actively pursue you in an exciting high-speed bike chase?
