Hmm, I’ve been up since six, so sorry if this sounds a bit ranty. Too little sleep.
I don’t really understand a proposition along the lines of “I don’t like reggae”. It’s a bit like saying “I don’t like guitar music”. What? All guitar music, or 60s, 70s, 90s, Hair Metal, Carl Perkins? As a genre it has too many years of types, divisions, off shoots for you to be able to say such a definitive statement.
I like some reggae, not all, but as Skully said – it’s partly oral history, some of it is party music, some of it is protest songs.
I like it’s early DIY production values that p!ss all over anything like a ‘celebrated’ producer such as George Martin ever managed.
I like it’s appropriation of ‘white’ 60s R&B songs
I like the fact it’s spintered off into a million and one different genres.
I like the fact it makes the ladies dance.
And Niall, tell me about the uncivilised Southern Britain prior to Roman invasion? I was under the impression that we’d already accommodated and taken up Romanesque habits. Don’t give me that ‘civilisation’ rubbish and go and read some pre history. And go and look at US prison statistics and repeat that sentence about “peace, rights, privileges and opportunities”.
I’ll switch off the bleeding liberal button now.
Well said.

BTW, my children's primary school has bike racks for children to park in after they ride to school. And they run cycling proficiency classes too.
So not every school is being so stoopid.
I wonder how much of this issue is driven by insurance companies. Schools must have to take out insurance. And I guess it costs them to have to be responsible for a shed of bikes and possibly the insurance companies charge extra if any children cycle to school. I know a friend has been told she is not to cycle between company offices any longer. I assumed that was an insurance issue.
Alot of it is about insurance and who is responsible if anything goes wrong. i.e. when the kids bikes get stolen by other kids at school or even outside the school, if the children fall off their bikes at school, etc. So much of these stupid rules are the results of schools protecting themselves from parents who love to aportion blame where ever they can and sue the pants of a local authority when the opportunity arises.

Have to agree with Rab about the frame and crank set have had my solo for a year and am pretty happy with it. Have recently changed quite a lot on mine though, but the standard components worked just fine for me. Still haven't seen another solo though and no one seems to have one on this site but me sigh
Rab you are as close as I will get.

Truth be told most music is trite if we wanna be picky and that is across all genres. Only a few artists have great lyrics and great music.
Music is so subjective anyway that if you like something keep on liking it because there is an army of people out there who think its crap.
