Since I haven't been on a forum ride before and probably lack the strength and stamina for the "New Oxford St Ride", I will pass. However I will be there to pass out energy drinks and give support to other inexperienced riders. I am thinking of doing a first aid course before the ride in case of any accidents.
What kind of energy drinks do you guys prefer?

What a terrible opinion piece.
The only thing I agree with is that main roads are safer than narrow quiet ones. I've never been in an accident on a main road. However, on quiet roads I have hit pedestrians that walk out suddenly, and been forced off the road (and on to pavement) by delivery vans that couldn't pass me.
The thing she mentions about angry cyclists in the park couldn't be more wrong. I cycle through the very narrow lane at London Fields every day, and it seems to me that everyone is smiling and nodding while obligingly making room for each other. Or maybe everyone is nicer in the east.

aaand kingsland road as per usual.
That part of Kingsland Rd (near old st) is normally alright. I live there and barely ever see dodgy activity. I'm actually surprised a bike was stolen outside the grocery, unless it was closed. People sometimes don't even bother locking their bikes outside there, such a busy area, and staff always hanging around outside.
Can't say much about further up the road though.

There were three police cars and an ambulance in minutes, which is reassuring. The police were questioning everyone who saw the accident and seemed to hang around for quite some time.
Hopefully they catch up to the driver.
It's a tight street to get up and down, people need to give way to each other. It annoys the fuck out of me when I see people racing down it in there pimped out imports blasting stupid 90's ibiza house music.

Not sure if its sensible to post a new thread after yesterdays debacle, but this seems kind of important.
A few hours ago a cyclist was hit on Broadway Market. The driver bolted after the accident (hit and run). The cyclist was taken away in an ambulance. I think the injuries were relatively minor, but no one seemed to know for sure as he was taken away pretty quickly (the police and ambulance were very quick on the scene).
Pretty shit that the driver didn't even stop to see if he was ok.
Anyone heard anything about this?

Yes of course, but I never said that it wasn't. However all I am trying to say is that I don't resist to slow down because:
"Heavy duty resisting is widely reputed to be bad for your legs, and to be counterproductive for building up muscles and coordination for forward pedaling. Google for "eccentric contraction" for more on this topic. Eccentric contraction is reputed to cause micro-tears to your muscle tissue, so it actually weakens your muscles, unlike other forms of exercise."
