All my strava is commuting, so I don't mark it as private because otherwise I don't get to compare my times over the segments (not racing, just seeing whether I'm getting slower or faster over time). No one follows me, so all is fine.
I guess a lot depends on how much mileage is going into your commuting, but it would seem to me based on the current Strava challenge for those who are in the Strava group that some peoples commuting is more than others total rides.

I missed the start of the season, was hoping to have magically become fitter, but I passed the start of the Hounslow Wheelers 10 on my way home and had a chat with the unofficial timekeeper. I set off on the outward bound leg of the course to continue on my way and it reinforced just how much faster these guys are. The front two riders on the return leg were going faster uphill than I was going down with the wind behind me.
So, into the drops this morning to try and stretch out my position and not a bad thing with that head wind. I tried to ignore the other riders and tell myself that 15mph was OK for my 25 mile pace and also tried not to recall the advice on the Hounslow Wheelers site for newbies that can't cut the pace to join the LCC instead. But where the hell does all the snot come from?

It seems people think that "emergent service worker" is a service worker who is emerging, i.e. young. I think, in fact, it refers to a service worker who is delivering (or working in) an emerging service, i.e. something that didn't use to exist, like Internetty, computery stuff, or something like that....
I think the two are in fact related as the average age of people working in emerging services tend to be younger - though much computery stuff isn't exactly an emerging service nowadays and the average age profile shows that.

Interesting thread about redials:

And a current one:

The hands are lumed - you can see it flaking on the minute hand, and there should be a dot of lume at the base of the hour markers to match. It is clear from the state of the hands and the bumper that some moisture has got into this watch as some point - and the dials are always the most sensitive part of a watch. So you've got corroded hands and bumper but a good condition dial and a very shiny calibre. It's not impossible that the corrosion in the mechanism is limited to just the bumper but add in the dial and it ticks just too many of the wrong boxes for the price.

Lovely but there are quite a few issues going on there. Given the condition of the hands I would imagine that it has had a redial. I'm wondering too why they didn't relume the dial when they did it. I also have to wonder given that they didn't bother to buy new hands for it. Then again the mechanism appears to have been built out of at least two different watches, so I think I'd leave well alone for that price.

I'm short too, but I've hit the level that I intended to hit. Next months challenge will be about right.
