I'm refurbishing an old racer that currently has 26" wheels. I intend to fit a pair of 700 x 23, but i'm not sure I'll have enough clearance at the fork.

It depends on tyres, I'm sure, but can anyone tell me roughly how much wider a 700c wheel is than a 26"? I have around an inch clearance at the fork, at present. Will 700's fit?

do people realise you get the same amount of adjustment from using a single half link as you do with having a whole chain of half links? do they just get the whole chain because if how it looks or do they think because there are so many half links it will give them infinite adjustment?

I spent the weekend sanding down an old steel frame and it looks really cool. What's the best thing to do now in terms of rust protection? I don't really want to alter the finish at all.
