not sure whats worse..stolen bike or random respray

fuckin scum...there's so many of these bastards about. if its any sympathy its not confined to the big smoke. had my first fixer lifted from my back garden a few back. only got it fixer after i had a sweet kona mtb robbed from the front garden, locked around a tree...cambridge's flatness prompted the switch and never looked back.
has anyone found any lock/locking (ahem) strategy they can rely on? sensible and daft options welcome. considering wiring up the frame of my new bike to the mains or a car battery overnight. surely you can get a gps dongle or something hidden in a seat post or something nowadays?

hey bogey,
cheers for the comeback and the suggestion re. keeping a look out. the bike was 99% OTP so i never really bothered creating bike porn. it's the 2007 so it looks exactly like this...
...except it has spds fitted...might still have a speedo (right side of bar, with cable running down the right fork) plus LED's fitted front (left side of bar) and back (seat post). its got a fitting attached for a rear wheel rainguard near the top of the downtube and its also set up to freewheel.it has this small SB logo (but reversed so white is black and vv) as a sticker on the downtube
other than that nothing major to speak of..was in perfect condition.
have just bought a new bike via cyclescam which nicely softened the blow and i pick it up early next week so will be there for next thurs
how many peeps come out?
thanks again bro

hi all,
just joined...nice to see a dedicated cambridge thread. seen fixers on the rise around the city too...often a nice chromed out classic looking number chained up next to a stall opposite monsoon/that dinky card shop just down from office...looks sweet.
thinking about joining in the ride but wondering how far/long you guys go, where from and when and how much training i need to do to avoid embarrassment?!
also...i just had a genesis flyer stolen from my house...2007 model - white frame, black carbon forks, mavic wheels, spd's...supreme being sticker on the down tube at the crank end. i bought it from light blue and the chap who runs the workshop there has reportedly seen a 'toerag' on it heading up to chesterton with 2 other 'toerags'.
axa have kindly declined to insure so ideally need to find it and serve justice. it's a small city and i'd be super grateful of any sightings. a chav on a fixer is as likely as an ashtray on a motorbike so should stick out..any help massively appreciated - can offer any form of alcohol (or whatever your poison is) as a reward.
see you around

well..apologies all for the repetition. i just joined so i have to post on 3 threads before i can get full member status...just getting my numbers up.
guess i overshot with my G comment. i'll personally actually spend £43 x 12 = £512 for £1000 worthish of bike (lets leave the G's out of this) i think that by anyones books thats ok and a whole £88 cheaper than an otp flyer.
i think the scenes are similar...not the same. nothing wrong with a little bit of attitude or gnarl, and yes i'm sure there are some gnarly hipster lead figure makers. but seeing as you have the warhammer knowledge you tell me?

i dunno...i'm new to this game but have just also spent a G today in blb via cyclescam after having a genesis flyer robbed and i'm shocked by the volume of stuff on blb here.
seems to be the whole fixed scene is like any other...skating, snowboarding, bmxing...self-expression, feeling like you're doing something non-mainstream...whatever. some people are cool...some people are not. all of these scenes have some gnarl and it wouldn't be the same without it.
lets be honest...all of this shit is about one-up-manship...who has the sickest bike, the nicest styles, the freshest moves so there's always gonna be some arrogance/attitude. like everyone on here's never looked down on someone's set-up and turned their nose up. its the same shit hypocrites!
my conclusion..anyone that goes into blb and doesn't like it is spineless and easily intimidated and really should either grow some balls or melt their bike down and go hang out in gamesworkshop and wank over making the nerdiest metal troll figures...or whatever the fuck it is they do in there

this is hilarious...i just spent a G in there after replacing a stolen genesis flyer that wasn't covered by insurance. i know...what a fuckwit. anyway...i didn't do much research as i was saving a boat load of cash by using cyclescham. at first i though i'd blown a G on welded turkey foil and aboriginal scrotums (should that be scroti?) after reading some of the threads on here. now i see that all the haters are just probably gutted they didnt start there own store. the girl in there told me today they sold 400 blb track frames in a year. you do the maths...fair play. if we brits all got our fingers out our arse, stopped claiming benefits and took a few risks, maybe we'd have half the chutzpah of the poles...I salute you! (is it ok to say salute in the same sentance as anything polish? brings back war connatations...sorry!)
hah! you'd have to catch me first! looks garish but would probably fly
