I've got an Islabike Beinn 20L for sale. It's in good/very good condition with mudguards, bottle cage and rear rack. £200 collection from Wimbledon. I'll upload photos when I can remember how to do it on here or if there is any interest I can email directly in response to a PM.

I think it’s a bespoke package and I’d take the helicopter rescue bit with a pinch of salt. Many years ago I tried to medivac a stroke victim (trekker) from Base camp on the North side and despite having helicopter rescue in their expensive insurance the PLA weren’t having any of it. There was a well documented rescue more recently but they were flying at or above the machines limits I gather.

BMC will cover 8000m peaks but possibly not K2 in winter!

I can recommend the echo meter touch 2 which plugs into a phone or tablet and tells you what you are hearing. It’s a great bit of kit

It’s not really any different to taking a field guide out though is it ? Some of the apps are pretty good- I use a Tree Fungus app all the time when I’m out surveying trees and narrowing down what I’m looking at and what it means. I also use a Fungi app that has a range of filters based on features which is really useful if you’re out at a site with a lot of possibles. Some of the good woodland sites have a thousand species recorded and I don’t know anyone that carts Phillips or Kibby around the field but they will have a phone . Incidentally the Brittlestems above aren’t in Phillips.

Can you take them to the pharmacist and have them identified like you can ( or could ) in France ? It always seemed a bit unreliable as identification is really tricky with many species without taking spore prints.

That is I think Conical Brittlestem . Inedible so someone will be disappointed.

Yes very sad news but he had a good long life. I’ve done a few of his routes ( Cenotaph Corner, Cemetery Gates, Right Unconquerable etc but wasn’t Sloth a Whillans route ?) I’ll check.
A friend spent ages fighting his way up Cenotaph Corner and proud as punch in the pub that night went up to the Great Man and said ‘ I did your route today’. Joe replied -‘ was that you - I thought you were having a picnic you were on it so long’ !
