Stuff like this just makes me think "Hulk, ANGRY"
This is pure observation on my part. The 4 times I have been directly involved (ie: victim of) theft/violence/ hassling and general disturbance in london, in 1 year has been 2 black, and 2 white. Equal, convenient but true. Doesn't matter what your background you can still be a degenerate fuck.
Hope you can move past this, and don't ever let a bike put your or your partners wellbeing at risk.

Damn. I can actually get the on-one with FSA headset for 135 according to their site. I already have wheels and a KMC chain+39 tooth chainring. and found an ok looking 17t freewheel. Found an old ritchey 80mm stem in my bag o bits. Might even pull the Shimano Tiagra cranks off the pug (170mm) for now. I figure the gearing will be OK for street and flattish trails.
Need to shop for/beg for Seatpost, Forks, BB and brakes. Mechanical or hydraulic? I have only ever used rim brakes so no direct experience with discs
Also. The EBB. is it one unit or do you buy the BB (say something with a sqaure taper) and then purchase a compatible eccentric shell? I'm not trying that hard but cant find a price for the PW EBB they use on the Love/Hate

Do I have it right? £265 for the frame and BB? OK more than I wanted to spend but that is good. Plus the ability to build into geared easily.
I guess for the moment I'd be sticking some rigid forks. Just cant afford decent bouncy ones yet. IMO theres no point scrimping on suspension.

Far out, so many choices. I have to admit my ignorance.... I had no idea there was that much out there. I'm going to have to build something a touch higher spec than intended. Cant wait to try SS on some trails.
How much adjustment for chain tension is there when comparing an eccentric hub to an eccentric BB?

When I get back to Syd it's going to be a tough decision whether to ride on the streets or not. Sydney driver are generally crazy and because there is less traffic than London it is also faster moving.
I used to ride to work about 3 times a week, from the northern beaches into Mosman. Was way more scary than commuting across london.

Weren't the original games based on war or combat type events of things that helped in that regard. ie: wrestling/javelin/running/weight lifting ect. I say get rid of all the rubbish and get back to that. Unfortunately it means even cycling gets cut. But more emphasis on world championshp events and such.
FFS, when did golf ever have anything to do with "olympics" just rubbish.

Before I get UTFS'd - I have. But Specifically does anybody have any tips regarding decent frames?
I don't really have any preferences, but cro-mo steel would be my choice. I used to run an old GT cr-mo XC bike that was just plain good.
I don't have any parts except for a set of shimano 26 disc hub wheels. No idea of what quality level (expecting low) but they were in a bin, so I took em. No signs of damage whatsoever. Also have a steel 39 tooth chainring and a slightly worn KMC chain.
Basically I'm just bored with my old peugeot SS road bike that I commute on. I've always ridden XC/singletrack back in aus and just like the feel and geometry of a MTB. I'll be keeping the pug but mixing up town riding and some tracks somewhere in the UK (suggestions?) with the new bike.
I have thought of buying a GT peace or something but would prefer to build it myself.

I think the stickers are a good idea. Fast and to the point. it's what you need in a busy environment. At least it grabs attention. You could then do a follow up campaign with more info that will explain the situation better. You have to educate in steps. As long as the follow up contains the original message/imagery people will make the connection.
The tfl ads are rubbish anyway and I'm sure do nothing to encourage or discourage cycling. My personal view is that it's not just the HGV's. I find the small vans/light trucks far worse. Normally driven by people with no extra training other than a standard car licence.
On a positive note. I think most bus drivers do an excellent job in providing space and keeping an eye out for us. I often feel safer around them than a load of in-a-rush cars.

It's a hard one not to lose it and end up in a verbal/physical fight.
I had a cabbie try to tell me that I'd stopped short in front of him at a red light and that caused him to emergency brake. Err, it was a very red light and he wasnt paying attention to the the road, more like chasing the next fare I suspect. But anyway, I stayed calm until he said I was a stupid c*nt and am I too chicken to sort this out like men? WTF!? at this point I had pulled my chain from my bag and was yelling numerous expletives an inch from his face and ready to start smashing his cab to shit. I did rethink and just said I'm outta here. He then of course tried to run me over.
After all this I managed to miss one of his cab no's digits and there f-all I could do but go home and calm down with several beers.
All I can say is watch out and think EVERY driver is out to kill you. -
Hi, I'm pretty interested in your bike. I'm london, could pick up anytime. I'm 175cm so size should be good. My current bike, an old pug, needs so many new bits this would be a much better (and far nicer solution) Although, whats the deal with the BB?
If it helps, I'm an aussie too and would ship it back eventually!
BTW, if your sending the car and furniture back home cant you shove this in the boot of the car??

On the basis of good invention, maybe not the greatest, but interesting:
http://www.gizmag.com/cranklock-technical-drawings/12391/for the original story:

Ok, possibly of no use on a fixie (!) but looks like another good way to add yet another dimension to cycling
sorry if repost

ha, I remember that ad. I even had one of those yellow buckets. But then I did hit my head all the time... still do.
I wear a helmet 98% of the time. I have not actually ever hit my head in a stack but I'd rather not chance it. If only you could stop the wrists breaking though. Done both sides twice and they never heal properly.
No one looks cool in a lid. but then no one looks cool with a patchy thin mustache but thats not stopping anyone right now

Well, I'm just saying Hi really.
I have have been on London's roads for about a year now riding various bikes. Currently running a mid 80's Pug converted to SS. I have this stupid obsession with the brand (I have had 3 Peugeot cars at once...in the past) I don't have a clue where it started...
I have always loved riding, although most of it has been XC MTB/Singletrack (back in Oz) sort of stuff so the roads here are an education.
Anyway, not going to bore you. I'll add a pic of my bike at some point...
Cheers
T
I have some of the pictured Shimano V-Brake levers working with some old Weinmann type 500's.
They stop fine? I just have them adjusted nice and close to the rim. You don't need to squeeze excessively hard either.
Mind you, I do want to change levers and brakes but to lazy/broke at the moment.
