@Dammit - Good points and I agree totally but it was written in my typically idealistic (unrealistic?) view.
Good point about multiple bikes too, that would be a killer.
I just have to remember my days as a driver and grumbling at the fuel tax that was meant for better roads. That turned out well!

Didn't read the article, get the idea though. You're a dumb feck if you buy them and then don't put it together properly. Meh.
BUT on the point of insuring, MOT etc. for bikes there's no need for that but a I personally wouldn't mind paying say £30 – £50 a year Registration fee*. It would at once get rid of any abuse about not paying to be on the roads ra rararara...- This is with an overly idealistic view that all monies raised would go into improving the roads for cyclist, improving cycle parking and creating an all round better environment for urban cycling.
Anyway, some flames might be useful today, it's kinda chilly.

I need some new bars for the Pug as the current bars are just flexy and creaky in a worrying way.
Ideally after some plain (not black, colourful anodised ect) alloy risers. I would just get the Nittos from Hubjub but their site says out of stock. I'm fairly certain 14 has them, but probably at a premium. Tour de Vill a possibility?
So, are there easily accessible alternatives? I don't care about brand, just about reliable and strong.
I have un-unexpected day off and would like to sort it out. Thanks in advance.

Looks to be a CFRP leaf spring seatpost. Cheap (ish) and light.
I'd like to try it but I'd be worried about an eventual catastrophic failure.

Probably still not as effective as HTFU though

Well, firstly, thank fuck I don't have to drive in London every day. I had to pick up a rental to drive to Bath tomorrow. Driving home tonight from Victoria to Stokey was interesting.
First off, checking for cyclist is hard work and and a constant requirement (stating the obvious) but it's educational from the drivers seat. Those little flashing lights we all use are a great help cause they really catch the eye. Oh, and High vis wear seems to do f-all for visibilty. The sulphur lighting just saps the fluro colour away.
Second, all those dicks that ride with no lights - YOU ARE FREAKING INVISIBLE. especially against the dazzle of other headlights. Use lights FFS. Btw, only a minority of cyclist seem to ignore this basic safety measure, mostly it seemed people in tight jeans and colour co-ordinated bikes...
The third surprising fact was that traffic wasn't that bad. I guess it was 7 but mostly it flowed. I would have still been faster on 2 wheels though!
So basically, It probably should be mandatory for cyclist to drive at least once to get an understanding of blind spots and to get at least a little respect for those drivers that do actually look out for riders.
Anyway, enjoy your evenings.

+1 to keeping your core relatively tight or tensed and a loose limbs approach. I don't think thats a fixed only thing, just seems to help with all cycling. Also, I'm a wannabe (failed) drummer (love it, just not great at it) and used to ride with another drummer... he used to count triplets in his head to even up one leg pushing more than the other. eg: 1,2,3 - 1,2,3 ... 1 being the "power" stroke so it alternates left and right every 3 strokes. works well for me, but that was XC MTB.

I've never had a set of bars (flat or riser) fail on me but...
I currently have some TRANS X risers on my bike and there is definite flex and the occasional creak that comes directly from the bars. Sounds like splintering metal. But I cant see any external crazing or cracks. My bike is full of creaks and groans but I know what they are, just not this one.
I don't like the idea of a sheared handle bar in the middle of a busy road.
BTW, I have seen the results of a failed bar... not pretty. Although the dude probably over torqued the stem bolts.

Well I ended up just walking. Not too bad really as it was a nice afternoon. And movie was good too. So good to see a film not ruined by cgi. It really did have the feel of the older sci-fi. A blend between Alien and 2001. very cool.
The best bit is I picked up my new mini fah. ( already struggled to find an easy way to get wheel/seatpost/and immovable object all fitting in) So should be a bit safer now.

Might be a stupid question, but feeling a little paranoid and my mini Fah has not arrived yet... anyway I have the afternoon off and am feeling lazy so want to go see "moon" at the angel Vue cinema multiplex thingy but am a little worried to leave the bike near the cinema for a couple of hours. Current locks are a abus steel-o-chain and my girlfriends borrowed granit chain (not highly rated though).
I know nowhere is foolproof but was thinking near the tube entrance should be alright.
Sorry if this is terminally boring but I had one of those voices in my head saying get a bus. Not use the, er, abus
suggestions?

Maybe the bikes not quite sized properly? I dunno, I think having a MTB background probably helps ridng around shoreditch on a "racer" Dodging glass, potholes, people with swinging hips and colour co-ordinates plimsoles to their deep v's...
I was am a xc mountain biker at heart but love my ss road bike for getting around london. different machines for different tasks. She'll get used to it
Social Class doesn't mean much. You're an arse either way, just if you're upper class arse you can hurt a lot more people and get away with it.
