with reference to the above quote re: timings,from the OP, I saw others on this thread bandying about stuff implying an 11:30 start?
I am presuming it is still midday as seen nothing official to the contrary? Also I don't know much about the parade ground where it starts, is that something that is open all the time or are we only allowed to get in there from a certain time in the morning?

What I meant was that the available information implies that there are certain limitations on when you can collect, whereas in fact they are pretty much open all the time. If you do want to contact them to check opening times you should only expect to get hold of someone by calling the mobile number, so don't bother with the landline, answering machine, or email.

got packs from two n fro yesterday, lots still there.
If you want to get hold of them to check anything i recommend the mobile number, as they do not (in my experience) answer or call back messages on the landline, and the email address on their website just bounces back as undeliverable, so I had problems trying to find out from them when they were open (I wanted to check their easter opening before i headed down).
FYI - when I was there, they told me they are now open every day (including today and tomorrow) 11 till 7, so not just by appointment only during the week.

if you decide you want a replacement for it i might be able to help you out...there's one in the alleyway behind my house that's been there for nearly 5 years. I partly dismantled it at one stage to assess the feasibility of doing something with it, but main parts are still there i.e. frame, basket carrier, basket (plastic tray thing), rims (i think) - the sturmey archer hubs would be pretty useless now - i think a lot of the smaller pieces of the hub gear and hub brake mechanisms were missing from the start.
I did hassle the royal mail to try and get them to take it away at one stage to avoid a trip to the tip, but they were not terribly interested.

I spent a while trying to see how i could bodge together a clamp for a flip video cam to go on my bike, in the end i found a reasonably priced off the shelf one which was exactly what i needed.
It is the Ultra Clamp, forget who manufactures it, but the cheapest site I found in UK was www.fastfilms.co.uk who had it for £19 + shipping.

Have messed around with it a bit in terms of where it can be positioned on the bike (pretty much anywhere you want to, as it has many angle adjustment options), in the end i decided not to bar mount as the constant slight side to side motion made it hard to watch, instead after experimenting with mounting it on various parts of the bike i found the best place seemed to be the front of the top tube just behind the stem, the cam is tall enough to film over the top. Banged my knees on it a couple of times but easily avoided on a fairly calm ride (see poor quality camera picture attached).Can show you some video filmed using it in this position if it helps (can't be that hard to post to vimeo or youtube can it?). Still some vibration seen, particularly when going on imperfect road surfaces, but probably tolerable for most purposes, depends what you are after. I was going to look at how i could put additional damping on it, but haven't gotten round to that.

i carry one of these since a couple of months ago, only ever used a couple of the allen keys (difficult in confined spaces due to the breadth of the tool which you have to rotate), it does have chain tool and spoke key but i haven't even checked them out that closely to see if they would realistically do anything useful. I'll do my usual and wait until i actually really need them out on a ride, and then find out that they are completely unsuitable for what i need, and walk home.

Just completed some changes to my Dawes Windsor, needed a bike i felt comfortable going slow on to use on a couple of days a week when i have to commute to an office with no shower, and don't want to be sweating like a paedophile when i arrive.
Replaced the halo aerorage wheelset with the original 27 x 1 1/4 rims, with a zenith hub laced into it by Arup.
Repalced the white charge spoon with a brooks b17 narrow
Replaced the nitto risers with velo orange north road bars, with leather grips that don't colour match the saddle well, think i might have to take the shoe polish to them to colour them more appropriately.
Feels nice going slow on it, which is frustrating to do on my other bike (flyer).

Had this problem last year with ultragator 700x25 on halo aerorage ...got so pissed off i bought one of these after trying and failing to HTFU. Works a treat.

I just read that the old vintage rims (not clincher I think) like weinmann used to make only pump up to max 80-90psi. Is it true? What are the disadvantages with that? Anyone help!!!! I've got to make the choice of either lacing up a vintage 27 1 1/4 rim on some track hubs or buying modern wheels with double walls.
they are clinchers in a sense but are what might be referred to as non-hooked, i.e. they are straight sided rims.
as was said, the rim has no psi spec associated with it, this is determined by the tyre. With the old non-hooked 27 x 1 1/4 wienmanns, when I got up to 90psi (which was the maximum specified on my 32-630 schwalbe marathons) I noticed in a couple of minutes that I could see a bulge appearing somewhere around the sidewall, and the tyre climbing off one side of the rim, and the inner tube starting to bulge out. If it happens when you're riding then you are in trouble obviously....
I run them at 60psi and have had no problem (although I've only been on them a week!) could probably go a little higher but don't want to risk a blowout mid-ride.
Don't know where you're based, but I had Arup Sen build the fixed hub onto my old Weinmann rims out Ealing way, great job and great service.
I did it as part of trying to restore my conversion back to something like it's original state now that I have an OTP fixed getaround. Nice to have the old one set up as a relaxed slow comfy bike to potter about town on, particular now the weather is good, 27" rims (make me feel much higher up despite it only being mm difference), north road bars for upright position, brooks b17 narrow (really uncomfortable at the moment, still breaking it in, wish I'd gone for the wider one or something with springs).

Still don't know how a torque wrench works. What if you're really weak, or really fucking strong? How can it be accurate?

I have the TW2 (beam wrench style with gauge), although i got a good discount on it (was £35 at Ribble) it felt like a bit of an extravagance at the time. but i have found that i do now use it regularly and feel assured that nothing is too loose or too tight, which is nice, if you tend to worry about that sort of thing (although i never did until i got the wrench).
Think my other favourite 'extravagance' tool is a park tools shop tyre tool (TL-10), similar to that Crank brothers one someone posted here, but fits onto the axle. Bought out of sheer frustration when trying to fit some new tyres which were impossible with my feeble thumbs and was getting repeated pinch flats from the levers when tried using them. Love it now (but not really portable so can't rely on it for doing tyres on the go).

Cats are nocturnal, your cat just wants to play or is feeling insecure and wants company.
Solutions:
- Leave the bedroom door open, your cat may or may not then attack your face as you sleep, worth a shot.
- Open the door and spray the cat with water whenever it wants to get in, after a few nights it'll get the message that bothering you at night is "wrong".
- Buy the cat more interesting things to play with/do at night other than bothering yourself... a massive cat fortress for example.
- Tire the cat out in the daytime and it will be less active at night.
- Your cat thinks that making noise = food and is getting hungary at night, make sure you only feed the cat at a set time twice a day, never feed your cat if it is near the bowl or causing a fuss.

so i started just locking him and his sister in the kitchen, and they ripped the fuck out of the pine door, so had to stick a large sheet of perspex over the back of that, on which they could gain no purchase.
Now they sleep in kitchen quite happily all night.

oh, hang on, you would want one with a bigger battery for your endurance shit, you would have to pay a bit more for that
I have that niterider lite you linked to.
It is great but only limiting factor that should be considered for a ride of this duration is that battery life is limited to 2.5 - 3 hours, and there is no means of extending that (unless you can charge while you ride somehow), i.e. no low power mode, no flashing mode, only a bright as fuck burn your eyeballs out mode.
If I am let off from sunday morning easter egg hunt activities with my kids to come on this ride, I would probably bring my cheapo cateye to use for the lit sections and the minewt on the scary dark bits...

my emergency repair kit, which was rethought recently after a puncture repair fail now includes:
spare tube;
dumbell spanner thing (the type that's getting a slagging);
new pump - lezyne mini pressure drive (tiny , good looking, and as i found out this morning when i punctured on way to work, effective);
small cheap multi-tool with screwdrivers / allen keys / spoke wrench and chain tool (£2.70 at Wiggle, posted! http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/LifeLine_Carbon_look_Multi_Tool/5360033546/);
3xpark tyre levers;
repair kit (in case I get 2 punctures...);with this mornings punctureall the above stuff was quick and easy to use but i would concur that the 'feel' of the spanner was not good, felt like it was going to round off its flats at highish torque when fitting the wheel back on, and was then worryingly stuck on the axle nut for a couple of minutes while i tried to remove it.
after no punctures for about 3 or 4 years on scwhable marathon plus and conti ultragators, i now had 2 in 1 month on conti ultrarace. timed myself as i am out of practice - 15 minutes, bit crap, but it was the rear so i had to mess about with the chain tensioning screws (which require a 2.5mm allen) to get the wheel off, and then back on with right chain tension.
Think i will definitely look into getting a better 15mm spanner, not sure i can see a need to carry anything else on my 5 mile commute.

Found out from CycleTraiing UK that their one day bike maintenance training courses are fully subsidised by some London Boroughs. For mine (Ealing) they will pay the full cost, on the proviso that I have already attended a Cycle Training session and made my £5 contribution to that (Ealing pays the other £65).
I have now therefore got 2 hours cycle training booked with a dude called Henrik this Sunday (from reading this thread sounds like there is likely some value in that for pretty much anyone), and will then proceed to get myself booked on the maintenance course just to make sure that I'm not doing anything horribly wrong with fixing my bikes...
