anyone stopped to think james of london might be the standard trying to wind people up so they leave comments?
the article itself is fairly neutral.
Dunno about that, i've seen a few comments on other stories that are so out of order they end up removing the whole comment section and the ability to post comment. But maybe i'm being a little naive

The comments section of that website is always full of dickheads, James from the city of London (could be the same as on that page) is always first to post and generally says idiotic shit just to stir things up (well he could just be an idiot i guess).
Anything to do with cycling generally brings out they should all be taxed, licensed and it's their fault they got run over/ killed, bunch of red light jumping..granny running over...toddler maiming...eco activist think their better than everyone cause their saving the planet..cunts.

Seems like apart for the OP most people's experince isn't with feral youth but feral adults. The chances are you're more likely to get the shit kicked out of you outside a pub or a club than you are when your riding home. 2 murders in south london this weekend, the youngest charged is 19 the rest are 20+ and one is 36, both happened after a night out.

Where's the picture of 'The Mongrel' fully set up with spikes then? I half expect you to be kitted up all in white like you’re on arctic military training!
As for winter proofing, I find having a shit bike helps with that worry and a state of mind that getting soaked/cold/covered in crap is all part of the fun.

Personally I'd stay south of the river.
Greenwich -> Depford creak st -> Jamaica Rd ->Druid st ->left into snowfeilds-> keep going straight on (due to cycle lane contraflows) until-.> Blackfriars Bridge ->Farringdon Rd -> Kings cross
So is staying south a lot quicker? Been thinking I should try that route at some point and I guess I'll be forced to once the foot tunnel is closed.
-
Oh and get some good locks.
www.tfl.gov.uk does routes for bikes (advanced search and only select bikes), that should give you the best way once your throught the foot tunnel (no cycling please!) and they have (or used to have) few maps that you could order with the cycle routes on, very handy and cheaper than an a-z
-
Should be an easy ride, through the foot tunnel (until they shut it to tart it up), up to limehouse (canary wharf - just follow everyone else), along cable street (i think that's the name) towards tower bridge road. From there I head into town (holborn) via high holborn, but you may want to do a right and go via old street. But there are so many variation once your in town you'll be spoilt for choice.

The dogs are pretty reliable, cost a fortune to train. Still i sort of agree with you, still get a bit nervous and it's been years for me.
Seen them do the rounds of my local pubs back out in the middle of nowhere kent on a saturday night, apparantly they were going round all the pubs in the villages. Would have been a lot better used in Maidstone town centre! Intelligent policing for you i guess !

from where i started out from, my life is +1 every day and i'm grateful to be alive.. it really doesn't take much to find happyness, just a simple, practical, honest way to live.. i have been in london most of my life, work fucking hard for less money today, struggle to make ends meet.. but blessed with my own beautiful family and some solid friends, i can't afford to be miserable or bitter about stuff no matter how bad, sometimes it is hard to realise that and even i need to be reminded once in a while.. it is very easy to take life in the UK for granted, when there are people in the world, who's suffering is un-imaginable..
Too true, people seem to forget how lucky we are.
-
i dont like this view.
at all.
the reason why Norway is the 'happiest' and indeed the same reason why there is "*unlikely to be a queue outside the Norwegian embass" *is because happiness is fucking hard, takes courage, patience and masses of intelligence.
Seeing as Britian sucks the cock of corporate America, a country where their value system is based on money, power and fame.....you're unlikely to find the people who migrate here really giving a fuck about anything deep therefore see Norway as somewhere 'boring'. The UK is unashamedly a 'lesser America'.......we just haven't commited fully yet to being, a majority of cunts.
IMO
Sounds like you need to lay off saturday night prime time tv and tabliod newspapers, a lot more to this country than that. Just look around london some of the greatest centres of learning in the world, free to all world class musuem's and gallerys. And that's not getting to the rest of the country.

I have been having the same problem, mine rattles like a bastard, but i figure it means people can't say they didn't hear me coming. Plus after a few miles i stop noticing it and it's the lesser of 2 evils, rather the noise than the extra weight in my bag (i've got a bigger version, so assume it is heavier)

Ride no handed?
