Flip - this has crept up on me - only a month-ish to go. Dragged my fixie out from behind the door this morning and rode to work as panic training. What gearing do people tend to use/recommend? (44x17 felt hard work up the hills this morning after not riding anything but my penny farthing for the last month).

If it started in Derby, the Mercian boys could worship at their shrine and could use one of the old railway routes - http://www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/whitepeak-trails-map.pdf

Damn and blast it, my dashing dame has gone and thrown a spanner in the works. The 25th is the weekend of the Three Peaks Cyclocross and she really wants to come along for this as well.
Can people do the 4th afterall. It's that or a Sunday (5th, 12th and 19th still free for me so far).
What are people's opinions?
The 5th is the Knutsford Great Race for penny farthings

11/12th was good for me, but can't do 25/26th :(
Hat Museum isn't that good, though they do sell some nice hats. Trying to think of any other Stockport sights - Air Raid Shelter tunnels, er, that's about it. To follow Teddy's trend of finishing in cool ex-bathhouses, you can rent Victoria Baths in Manchester...

Right, now some annoying news. It has come to our attention that Tweed Run products made with Dashing Tweeds fabric may not have any Lumatwill woven into them.
You wouldn't believe the amount of time I spent trying to get my tweeds to reflect with a torch... But they are lovely all the same, so I'm happy.
The Rapha link doesn't work for me - I'm intregued, but 130-miles sounds a bit too energetic.

welcome! i had a group of older gentleman from l'eroica try and get me to go to the Boulogne Bicycle Rally
What - like grooming you...?
- really fancy it but i am so skint at the moment i don't think i'll manage to find the funds... next year for sure though - looks fantastic
Cheapy ferry into Boulogne on foot/bike, and there's loads of cheap accomadation & eateries in the town - do it!

We could have an impromptu Tweeded Excursion, anyone fancy a good route from Sheffield over the Peak District to Stockport taking in some fine icons of the heydey of tweed.
I'd be interested. I was wondering about a "Tweed Run North", but Salford and Hartlepool don't seem to have the same feel :) And stuff like "Imperial War Museum, North" is always piss poor compared to the London one...

Still thinking, and similing, about this a week-and-a-half later. Sat around in my breeks last night to try and recreate some of the atmosphere :) Can't wait for another 12 months for another Tweed Run; thinking about flying over for the New York one...
If you can't wait there's a couple of other tweedy type events:
Boulogne Rally - http://www.theoldbicycleshowroom.co.uk/events-108-c.asp - already mentioned this, a gentle 25-miles around the pre-war GP road circuit on old bikes stopping at tabacs for beers.
L'Eroica - http://www.eroica-ciclismo.it/english/home.asp - first time this year for me, 100 miles on gravel roads 'round Tuscanny

BIG NEWS: If you have BC silver membership you do not have to pay for a day license (at events where they are allowed) and you can have as many day licenses as you want throughout the year! I learnt this yesterday, this means with Silver membership you could race all Herne Hill track leagues and open events and all the Crystal Palace circuit races and most of Hog Hill races without ever buying a license…..you do not get BC ranking points however.
You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar! Saved me £30+. British Cycling don't seem to say this anywhere, but when you mention it to them they "come clean". My first cycle race for 20-ish years next Monday at Manchester velodrome...

Can I add my thanks to Teddy and Jacqui? A splendid day out! And massive thanks to all the marshals - it was amazing how you got everything closed down as we approached - are you all off-duty police outriders...? Was slightly nervous about cycling in the Big Smoke having never done it before, but cycling to the start & from the finish, I found it less fraught than cycling through northern provincial towns.
The end-of-ride venue was great - huzzah to Hendericks, and Mr B was the best live act I've seen all year. Am so excited to be the winner of the length of lovely Harris Tweed - think I was lucky to get out of there alive with it :) Will contact my tailor (okay, I need to find a tailor...) with some exciting plans for it.
But, by God, its good to get rid of the 'tashe!

For those travelling by rail to the Tweed Run:
There's industrial action on the trains from the 6th April to the 9th April - I've had an email telling me that my train down on the Friday might be affected.
I'm going to London on the Friday even if I have to ride down in full tweed.
I'm hoping that they will all be running smoothy by Saturday morning... :(

Oh, and what time to get to Hackney? I can get into Euston for quarter-to-eight then cycle across for just after 8 (?) - or do I need to be there earlier than that (its an hour between trains)?
