I'll be doing this geared on my recently finished Holdsworth. Can't wait
Camping over in Freshwater after getting the Lymington or Keyhaven ferry to Yarmouth. Hopefully I'll meet some of you on the day.
Anyone got a route from London to the New Forest?
Sasmon, I went to school in Lymington, and my folks are still down that way. I've not yet cycled from London, but there is a London - Bournemouth route which I would consider using when (if?) I decide to do it...

(from http://www.london2bournemouth.co.uk/)I would probably cut down through Minstead, and Brokenhurst to get to Lymington. If you try it let me know how the route panned out for future reference!

Thanks, for your help guys.
@Skully, yes I might have to admit defeat soon! I've been working on this bike project for a long while though and have tried to do everything myself - so I am reluctant to cave in at this last hurdle. Yes the "spring thing" looks like a neat soltuion. The thing that left me uncertain was that the kit didn't contain any form of attachment to the chainstay bridge, I assume this is because there are so many variations though. I think I get you on the bending it to fit, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
I think eyelet threads are 5mm (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tooltips/taps.html) I'll try and look into getting some taps for this if I can't borrow any. Hopefully there shouldn't be too much tapping to do, there's just some powder coat around the ends.
@diable - Thanks I'll check screwfix

I saw some plus-gas at the Bow trade counter of RS components the other day and made a mental note for future reference:

Though I've used Halford own before and found it effective.

I've ordered some VO mudguards from www.freshtripe.co.uk. They're lush.
Predictably fitting has been a bitch. Firstly my chainstay bridge is too far from the mudguard, I might try to rig up one of these http://velo-orange.blogspot.com/2009/04/spring-thing.html with a p-clamp, but the set contains no bolts for attaching to the chain stay bridge. Is this because a brake mount with fender stays is enough to hold the mudguard in place?
That's not even the half of it though. My frame has some powder coat in the mudguard eyelet sockets, and I've seared a bolt off in one of the rear eyelets. I've gone through about 4 drill bits already, and it's still not out. I know I need to get some "easy outs", or left threaded bits, but have not been able to source any the right size.
Finally it looks like I will need to re-tap the eyelet threads - has anyone had to do this before? Tools or advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks Superprecise.
I found that 6027 recommendation in google too, couldn't find it on the Armourtex page as it keeps hanging in my browser, but just saw it now after a second look.
If anyone here has tried that I'd be interested to hear their thoughts.
By the way Superprecise I was admiring your Mercian on Flickr the other day while trying to find some examples for mudguard fitting - it's beautiful!

Has anyone ever got anything done at Armourtex in a colour approximating Bianchi Celeste? I want to get my Bianchi done, but am unsure which RAL code is the best match.
Looking at their site I'd say Opaline Green 275 on the BS381C is the closest but it's very hard to say.
Unfortunately I can't take it in for a colour match because its current colour is a metallic blue, and I want to revert it to celeste.
Recommendations or photos would be much appreciated. Many Thanks!

I had a nasty run in with NYPD whilst visiting a few years ago:

Shocking state of affairs, and London seems to be as bad these days.

ps. will be down the Mile End wall on Wednesday from about 5pm if anyone's about. look for the skinny kid with a brown side-parting and Red Chilli shoes.
cool, i usually go down Wednesday afternoon, probably a bit before 5, but might see you.
also red chilli shoes, and brown hair, though i could do with a haircut.

I just thought I'd opportunistically dive in here and say I'm keen to go climbing/bouldering at Mile End, but don't have a regular partner. I've realised that I try a lot harder if there's someone there to show me up - so if anyone's interested PM me.
Tentatively thinking about some kind of cycling bouldering excursions in Dartmoor this summer. So it would be good to find someone interested in both activities.
