As you can see from the list above, we're almost there, with the exception of shims, tyres, headset, rear hub, and brakes.

A last broadcast for help in collecting those items - I'm free all day Saturday so can come get these items.

It looks like a lot of people are going to show up to this - a few skillsets we will need:

• Switching from a multi-speed rear wheel to fixed speed
  
• Sawing and fitting headset, etc.

Bike Build Location and Details - from 12:00-17:00 on Sunday, July 5th, 2009:

The much awaited day - we're going to meet at Regents Park, Holme Greene, in the Bandstand. The nearest entrance is Clarence Gate, off the outer circle/Marylebone road. Enter Clarence gate, cross Clarence bridge, and turn left - you'll see the bandstand. Map is below, Clarence Gate location is nearest the red circle that says "you" at the bottom of the map (exact location is Boathouse logo above it saying Holme Green). Nearest tube stop, Baker Street (look on map to see it).

Beer provided for suppliers/builders. Please bring the parts you've signed up for, and if you have any of the missing items, would be much appreciated. Both BenJam and I are looking forward to this!

So now I should feel bad that I didn't study Greek literature AND watch the most horrible Saturday morning cartoon invented? Seriously, in the US, Captain Planet is what your parents would make you watch if they felt you were being especially evil on that day....

Donut, after running all around London, and probably doing so the rest of the week, I'd say there are simpler ways of building a bike. Honestly, it's just been a blast doing this process, and if I get a usable bike, so much the better. If not, it's been a great introduction to London, my new home :).

Bought a Dolan Pre-Cursa frame, finally. Seat tube 56cm C/T. Top Tube 58cm C/C.

So, now, what parts can I fit onto this for a complete bike? I'm hoping to build the whole thing this Sunday at Regents park.....

So, this is the friend that Ben is writing about.

First ,in response to photoben - I first knew Benjam was open-sourcing the process when he forwarded the post to me this morn. And I would have never had the cajones to post this myself (or the knowledge you guys even existed, considering that I just came over to your shores a few months ago). But it's in interesting process - I'll be interested if I can get a decent bike this way.

Second, just a explanation of my objectives - I want a commuter bike that's light (lifting it up stairs, etc.), sturdy (london potholes), easy to maintain, ergonomic (don't want to feel every pothole), and stylish. And in that order.

I don't want to spend a lot of money having lived in major urban centers before (New York, Amsterdam, etc.), and facing anguish when my Trek, etc., got stolen or random parts cost me an arm and leg.

So thus asking my friend to build a bike, which he's doing in an interesting way. I'll throw in my own bit - judging that the British seem easily bought with alcohol, I'll buy everyone that contributes a major part to this project a beer (and it might even be something decent, like a Busweiser ;-p - kidding, kidding!).

All advice and commentary welcome.
