I got it :-) but they got me for a knock down bargain price :-( I know I should be grateful for just having a job in the current climate, but I was earning more money back in 1995 than I will be in 2012. It's a hard one to swallow.
Mind you I do get C2W and a shower at the office, more holiday than I've ever had and unlimited free coffee... I'm still in negotiations concerning the custard creams.

Your headset might well be fine. Needle bearing headsets do feel stiffer on pre-tension but work fine once you are riding. I've used a couple and it's a consistent theme. The LBS that fitted mine actually pointed this out to me when I collected the bike as they have had people come back before with just the issue you describe. Personally I prefer them to standard ball race ones.
Bars - just tape the lot and loose the grips you have.
Gears - Depends on what you ride and the state of your legs but personally I ride a hell of a lot lower. While I spin like mad on a clear road I find the extra control in traffic a real bonus.

SKF 6001-2RS can be had for £3.88 a pair and work fine with the Formula / System X clones. They are smoother than the stock ones that come with the hubs and still are after 3 years use.
As for BB's I'm still yet to find anything wrong with a UN-54. I ran one for over 10 years on a Stumpy and it was still smooth when I passed the frame on to a friend.

Sorry should have put a price.
Does £40 sound fair?
For only £2 more you can have a brand new one with rings included..

I came here to post that. Utterly rank. The premise is foolish as well - a Schlumpf up front and a Sturmey Archer in the rear to make it a '4 Gear Single Speed'.
While I don't personally like the bike I think it's quite a clever notion. The more common way to do it is Schlumpf + AW3 which gives quite a wide range, works in a track frame and avoids evil dangly things.

Talbot Rd spotting session today..
9am Hipster girl on black Create with purple rim. Thought it was fixed until the break noise and she stopped pedalling. Made me feel like a right corporate sell out in my shirt and tie on the way to work whilst she sported sleeve tats and hipster uniform.
9:15am - Lewis tanking along on his MTB up Talbot Rd, presuming on his way to Sale. Would have stopped for a chat but was just heading into the office.
1pm ish. Guy on a fixie in leather jacket with long hair heading towards town. Might have been Chris of Cantgoslo infamy, certainly looked similar.
