Can someone lay out how much these things cost, how they're financed etc? Not that I'm thinking of doing it, but I am curious about them. How much are boats? Can you get mortgages/loans? How much is mooring? Is it hard to find a place?
if you are looking for a higher quality boat builder (allen / steve hudsen etc) narrowbeam then you should put aside around £1500 per foot for a completed boat. my father built his from a shell he bought back in 1991ish for £8000. that was a 70ft which he built the inside himself. it did take him about 10 years though!
moorings are generally cheap. he pays £80 a month for his mooring as its basically only somewhere to tie a boat up and he is supplying the living space. the problem is getting a decent mooring. if you are looking at buying/renting, most come with their moorings.
places such as by victoria park which will be more popular have 7-14 day limits, as shops and water points are nearby but otherwise you can moor anywhere as long as your licence is up to date.
and yes you can get a mortgage for one. there is one in battlebridge basin going for 90k

Talking of cheapshots. Check out Rougerie headbutting and then eye gouging McCaw just before the end. No wonder there was so little interaction between the teams at the end. Nasty ugly business!

i think i best retract my last comments. its ridiculous that this still happens at this level.

Rozzers have been speeding down my road from Kingsland Road towards Mare Street for the last 5 mins.
More on their way by the sounds of things.
just been down mare street. buses are running and things seem pretty normal. only saw one smashed window. the money exchange place at the end of well street has already had its shutters replaced.

talking about the clampdowns; it is a problem but the whole time ive worked on the canals, i never really saw BW being able to enforce moving boats on on the stretch we operate on. obviously they were somewhere as a good place to pick up a bargain is the BW boat auctions where they sell the reclaimed boats due to being unlicensed.
