Got some lovely charming friendly (impossibly stupid) Polish bantams last Sunday to pad out the flock after our last hybrid moved on. A rat took and killed one this evening (thankfully after the kids went to bed) and we’re absolutely devastated.

Completely unrelated, did you do any external insulation/energy efficiency building fabric stuff as part of your refurb, or was it all internal rearrangement? Was your overall £/sqm horrific? Comparing some numbers at the moment and it's not much fun.

Since missing the ‘right’ one in January the thrill of the chase has waned somewhat. Nothing exciting come to market so far this month (autotrader/pistonheads/z4 forums/ebay). The longer it takes the more tempting throwing 12k at a lowish miles one from Zachary Luke is, just so I can get it out of my system, but I’d lose just as much on a cheap one as a good one after x years of ownership and there’s no need for the thing in the first place so going all-in feels silly.

They only come with the 3.0 n52, so it’ll be that. It’s just a matter of pouncing on the right one before they go. £7.5k should get a well serviced 100k mile one with a few options, but it’ll also get you some proper battered ones. Luck of the draw.
