so anyway, ridden my plug to work everyday, some steep hills, lots of wind and rain. Rode my old holdsworth, (campag 16 speed down tube shifters, on fri. nearly killed me.) Out today every bad hill round here, very windy. Stopped off for some proper beer, nea bother. why am I finding s/speed not that bad in Cornwall, is it cos I is Catholic?

I was told that my local tip at St Day had handed over all scrap rights to a local firm. They collect any sellable waste, take it away to their warehouse, clean it, then sell it to the general public. They pay the tip a yearly fee for this privilage. So ends picking up a cheap frame/bike when you are at the tip.
There must be a way of buying stuff from the warehouse, you'd assume that would be pretty cheap. I've never seen this stuff for sale, unless it must end up on ebay or at car boots

I live near Padstow, and cycle to work, couple of days on my singlespeed, the rest on road and cyclocross (compact) 10 miles each way. There are lots of short steep hills but plenty of rolling gentle "slopes". The wind is the killer, lots of s'west and cold n'west. (Pain is just weakness leaving the body)
The beer is great "Tinners and Proper Job", great food, try the Cornish Arms, St Merryn, just taken over by Rick Stein, not poncey, just a proper pub
I used to be a driving instructor and I would always teach pupils to give two meters to pass a cyclist, if you cant then pass slowly. This was standard for all D.I.s. The thinking behind this was a person on a bike stands approx 6ft, if they topple/swerve you've still got room to to avoid collision?
