Mercier project: 99% done, just looking for the right set of bars....
Picked this thing up dirt cheap for the little one and I to cruise for coffee! It has an amazing 1930's leather embroidered saddle made in oz!

i remember my year as a junior roadie (the shame) this came out and i spent many a day dreaming of this ride, now lots of bogans drive round with cars in the same tint and it kinda detracts, looks better on the Klein for sure

Nice story.
Yesterday I got a friendly email from the person who built the frame of one of my finished projects.
He wrote that he was surprised to see his frame on the internet (my blog, velospace), but actually with his brothers name connected to it.
Well, to be honest, I just knew the family name, not the first name. But every time I mentioned the "brand" name of the small obscure company of the private frame builder, people mentioned the name of the brother. The brother was actually a racer, the man who wrote to me was a welder, who decided to make bike frames.
So, the story has been corrected now.
As a nice detail, he still knows a lot about my frame (he made just small quantities and on special order only) and had some pictures when brazing/soldering it. Nice workshop and jig or what???
Nice to complete my story about this "RECO" bike. And nice to know that some people ctually look at your blog and bikes on Velospace (or even better: this forum).Great story - ad's to the build for sure! Good to know in his spare time, CARLOS THE JACKAL had a simple hobby that honed his bomb making skills!

stages of my guerciotti project, still not done but already a great ride, my winter beater...
still need front tire, pedal straps, crankset, saddle, brake levers...
yeah, like this, welldone mang! sometimes the best projects are the ones that serve a day to day function - like beater bikes. Think this could use some more TLC and it'd come up really nice

I'm afraid that poster is not the same Mercier as your frame. I can be wrong but it seems to be from a local Parisian bike shop, when the other (and main) Mercier (your frame) would have been the larger factory founded and based in Saint Etienne.
Good your frame is from 83/84, as 84 is when things seem to have gone wrong with the name (as they started making supermarket bikes after 85).
Re lug lining (gold on pink mainly), from what I've seen, it appears on the more elaborated lugged frames, like on this picture:
L
Ah yes I get what you are saying about that poster, either way I thought it fitting to go with the picture as an inspiration and make it slightly more modern with the trans black.
I might do a translucent pink for 2012! I love stripping and re painting bikes.
Yeah will go with the gold lining if I do, see how the trans black turns out.

Hey Loic - sweet man thanks for the interest.
The colour scheme is based on this poster I have here. The poster and photo of the bike, when it's done, will be framed for the lady who gave it to me in honour of the original owner - her late ex-husband who she remained great friends with - they did a lot of touring together on their bikes.
I did identify the year 83/84 - The stickers I ordered from lloyds cycles have a gold outline and are of the 1980's era - stoked on that - good looking out on that mate.
Not sure if i will line the lugs in gold, might ask forum opinion when time comes ;) The lugs are very basic, nice shape n all but very basic. .... presume the frame material i's low end Colombus?? Send a couple shots your way anyways..
