as a nation we share a nefarious and inexplicable notion that ‘entertainment’ consists of giving a platform to a relatively unbroken and unvarying parade of child abusers and sexual predators. I assume there must be some point of relatability. perhaps, without ever being specific or too questioning about the implications, there is something about these ‘stars’’ performance of paternalistic command and breezy insouciance that is attractive to audiences. Another thought is that these avatars for a way of being that is generally a bit more sensuous and pleasure-orientated - frankly, thinking of huw edwards’ sarcastic upper lip, camp - another thought is that these figures compensate for our own repression and terse grimness.
ergo i blame the reformation. had we kept catholic we would have been able to exorcise these repressions in more healthy cultural activity (saving, of course, for actual people within the church). -

Our tv reception is crap. As I see it the bad reception might be the ancient, loosy goosy cable, or the ancient, equally slack socket, or internal wiring, or (we live on a council estate) wherever that cable goes after, presumably some kind of antenna for the block? we don’t have our own antenna/dish.
Given all these possibilities, is it worth me trying a new cable?
Can someone who has experience of council estate tv connections tell me I am wrong/right about my assumption about a block antenna? Many thanks!!! ps. This is not an invitation for people to tell me get fancy tv. We have freeview and are happy with the minimum, just not nothing 🤣 -

o’rourke can’t be compared to coren. the former is a real writer, his zeal for reagan was depressing but his funny moments were also often self deprecating. Having a craft, being funny and having/showing a modicum of awareness of his own fallibility are three things that he has over coren. Also coren is now, whereas o’rourke’s awfulness wasn’t a context we share, it makes hating him more urgent!
