I found an old peugeot esprit in my friends shed so decided to convert.
It started off like this:
There was a bit of surface rust, no issue, but the stem and bottom bracket were well and truly siezed. The stem needed a week's worth of caustic soda treatment whereas the bottom bracket had to be removed using brute force and the trusty blow torch. After nitromors and a lot of sanding it ended up looking like this:
I was tempted to leave it raw but decided to prime it, paint and clearcoat it. I used montana 94 in cosmos violet which is really low pressure and gives a nice opaque colour and then sprayed on some metallic flakes before clearcoating it with montana hardcore.
The photos are exceptionally rubbish, i'll try and get some decent ones sometime.
Frame & fork: Peugeot Esprit
Wheelset: Gipiemme Pista
Tyres f+r: rubino pro/randonneur
Stem: 3ttt 90mm
Handlebars: Nitto b127/soyo long grips/dirty harry/odyssey slick kable
Brake: campagnolo xenon
Saddle: Rolls
Chainset: velosolo lasco 44t chainring/velosolo 16t cog
Pedals: mks sylvans/on one double clips/on one double straps
Feel free to shove this straight in to anti-porn. -

My first conversion was going nowhere, frame was too small for me, so I got my hands on a peugeot premiere. The serial number on the bottom bracket is y71205676 which would date it as 1987? I think it has an English bb, but would anyone be able to confirm if it has a french or an english bottom bracket? If it helps, it's made of carbolite 103 and has made in france stickers.

this?
Yeh, that. I've emailed to ask when the 103mm will be in stock but I'm looking to get my bike up and running as soon as possible, so was looking for some other options. Don't suppose you know of any other french bottom brackets apart from vintage ones?

Would it be possible to replace the 110mm axle in this bottom bracket with a different 103mm axle. If so, does anyone know of a suitable option?

I've come a long way since last week, I said single speed but I meant fixed gear. The allen bolt had rounded out so I hammered in a slightly larger allen key to get the bolt out. Turns out the quill had corroded into the steerer, so I had to use several doses of caustic soda to dissolve it. I've removed all the braze-ons and I'm stripping the paint tomorrow (yes puppy killer), but there's a bit of surface rust that has to be attended to.
As for the components, it's a french frame. The headset is salvageable and I've managed to buy a pug seat tube, but the bottom bracket is beyond repair so I'll be getting on of these.
So looks like the ball's rolling on this project. Keep me updated on yours, do you know what crankset/rear hub you'll be using?
Has anyone got one of those hip pouch/u-lock holders that came with the vans gabe morfords that they want to part with?
Same as this...
In return beers/moneys depending in location.
