I live in Belfast and am thinking about getting into Fixed Gear! Any recommendations?? :)
I would recomend a conversion, for keeping the price down more than anything else. Go to the bike workshop on Laurence St and pick up a geared bike, (u will get one cheap from there the guy is cool.) then get a fixed rear wheel from Chainreactions. If you need any help or tools i can give you a hand. You are a few days late i just had a bit of a clear out there and got rid of some frames and wheels cranks etc, prob could have knocked something together for next to nothing.

You might see my old buddy Rowan knocking around. looks about 30, blad, beard, brown hair (whats left of it). He rides a load of different bikes - 1950's Freddy Grubb, 1980's Raleigh Routier conversion, dark green Dawes Galaxy, light blue Dawes Impulse etc etc etc
Cool, I'll keep an eye out. I think a few people used to meet up a while back for rides tryin to get something like that organised.

Leonie (Trip)'s Welsh track frame have arrived, it was designed for teenager for the track, but turn out to be a more than perfect fit for Leonie's petite 5'4 body. (48.5cm frame (TT is 54cm)), it's also a 531 double butted frame instead of the normal 531 awesomeness;
(wheel's for illustrated purpose, I'll put my Mavic CXP14 on it as she like that wheel).
it even got a nice wrap round seatpost, and a drilled BB;
Does anyone have anymore information? the BB show some serial number but the drilling has render it unreadable, all I know is that it was for the Welwyn track in Wales for schoolboy.
that is really nice, my gf is not goin to think her bike is taht nice any more tho..lol (i would leave the paint as is) :)

Been reading this thread and gettin pretty angry, i dont know how you guys put up with this level of bike theft. I live in belfast where bike theft is really low. From my experiance if it is locked up at all it will be ok. I do worry about my bike being damaged by some retard with nothing better to do tho. Usless post i know :)

I bought my girlfriend an electra beach cruiser a few months ago for her birthday, she has now got into cycling but needs something a bit easier to use around the city. She is looking to try riding fixed and and wanted me to convert something for her. A major thing is she wanted a bike that didnt have the sloping top tube like most ladies bikes, she is only about 5"1" or so and we thought it would be a prob finding a suitable bike. Long story short we called into the little bike workshop on the end of our street and found this. Got it for £20 and it is in perfect working order. I'm going to convert it to single speed tomorrow until i work out how to sort out a 24" fixed rear wheel :). I will be keeping the parts to return it to geared should the need arise. Pics of conversion tomorrow.
my gf and i spent a couple of hours today converting to s/s and giving it a good clean. these are the results.
After a test ride today i will be changing the brakes to bmx type leavers on the top of the drops. got new white wall tyres comming tomorrow and i will be getting a flip flop hub to be laced to the original rim.

thing about wheels, is that they needed to be build.
all you need to do is find a hub (system ex for instance), new 24" rims if the old one isn't good enough and take it to the bike shop to be build.
that's all there to it, you're highly unlikely to find a 24" fixed wheelsets out there.
thats the plan, i built it up as a bit of a ghetto single speed tonight (just using the origonal cassett sp?) going to get a flip flop hub, a rim and have a wheel built. thanks for the input.
any body want to go for a spin on wed night, got the night off work for a change :)
