2010 Trek District on its way...when Madison FINALLY get the new 11 spd Alfine hub/shifter theyll be introduced...will run it flat bar until the rumoured/mythical Shimano 11 spd sti drop shifter is available...
(i used to sell BMW motorbikes...the belts on the F800s/st models were rated at 25,000 mile lifespan (from memory)...and were due for tensioning IF required at the 6000 mile service intervals)

this bloke makes (or supplys) a really neat liitle coupler to allow the belt through the frame...

anyone tried DIY frame stretching?
had a look on Sheldons site and his "length of 2x4 method" seems decidely medaieval..need to open up the back end (matron!) on a Merican to take a 10 speed hub....doesnt seem to difficult to me ...im thinking a lenght of threaded stud and some nuts....wind out slowly inside the drop-outs to the desired width ( or take it a bit beyond)...leave for a while...remove...
?
any thoughts?

i dropped by Sargent and Co last week...Rob there is able to undertake small braze repairs ( at least he offered to braze on some downtube shifter bosses for me...)....may be worth calling him to see if he can help...http://www.sargentandco.com/

so...im getting downtube shifter bosses brazed onto my current project ( a Mercian "roadster" ) and intend to run 9 or 10 spd Dura Ace downtube shifters, but i want an old school vintage Shimano rear mech (purely for the look - im not bothered about period correctness but want a retro-look)
...now im guessing that an old (7 speed?) mech SHOULD have enough reach to accomodate a 9/10 speed cassette...perhaps i could even file away limit stops to get extra reach?
so which mechs would you recommend?
thanks(apologies for geared question in advance but theres some really knowlegable folk on here...)
not sure if this counts as true "northern"...but its a cracker for sure...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnM2c9jQf5I
