This year was my first and I very much enjoyed it despite the lack of training and preparation - though I am glad I got a decent pair of bib shorts and a full service before hand.
I ended up doing most of the route by myself, which was empowering, but I reckon the social aspect is key, and I would have struggled to repair a puncture myself in the dark. Will definitely form a posse if I am doing for it 2019, and probably have a less ambitious Saturday before the event.

Was going north bound towards Stoke Newington Church St but accordingly to Strava only made it up to the junction with Mildmay Grove South https://www.strava.com/activities/1519079320

I don't know if this counts as a minor accident as I have no recollection of it but on Thursday night I was cycling home from work drinks and next thing I know I was getting into an ambulance on what I believe was Mildmay Park, perhaps near the junction of Mildmay Grove South if I can trust my GPS data.
I am mostly fine now but it was pretty scary being told I had multiple fractures to my skull and bleeding on the brain. Definitely going to wear a helmet during my commute after that. My bicycle is a different story, was told by the shop that the frame is a write off. I can only guess that with the forces involved I may have been in a hit and run. Have filled a police report with the little I know and hoping that the police contact Islington Council for some CCTV.

I'm confused too though apparently that's to be expected after hitting my head and hardly sleeping.
On one hand I've got ambulance and hospital staff telling me all these anecdotal horror stories about the injuries they see happen to cyclists without helmets and then I've got counter arguments about the other forces that wearing a helmet introduces.
Only thing I know for sure is not to ride so fast after it's been raining.

Until yesterday I didn't think there was much point wearing a helmet as all the accidents I'd had until then hadn't involved my head and it's not like a helmet is going to save me from an HGV.
Then yesterday I was dashing through Angel going about 25km and next thing I knew I was crashing down on my side and people were telling me my head was bleeding. It had been raining beforehand so my wheel must have slipped on something. Ended up in an ambulance and getting my head literally glued together in A&E.
I feel fine today and grateful I am live with a brain that is functioning the same as ever but the whole thing did scare the hell out of me and caused me to dig up my helmet from under my bed.

Anyone ever got a stain on a messenger bag, specifically a Chrome one, and managed to get it out? I emailed them and followed their advice of warm soapy water but the stain remains. No idea where it came from. Wondering if I should try spraying it with WD40 in case it's oil based and doing the soapy water again or perhaps dry cleaners can do some magic.

Finally got around to getting an x-ray after crashing a week ago on holiday in Utrecht when my tyres must have slipped on a wet grill. Turns out I've chipped my radial head so off the bike for a while :-(
I've always cycled with slick Gatorskin tyres but now I am wondering if I get something with more tread, at least for the winters as it's always been a fear of mine slipping on wet leaves or metal grills.
So it's almost 11 years since I broke my femur, and since then I've taken up running and ran 11 marathons.
