It was certainly a lot of fun, was my first go on a track. You can get a lot more track time for less money (and still get instruction) at track days. If you are worried about your own bike then there are a few places that'll hire supersports bikes.
I didn't pay nearly £300 though, had a voucher with a significant discount. It's certainly a very easy way to get some track time though.

I've had a go on a CBR600RR on a Ron Haslam track day. I am 188cm, so similar height - it is a squeeze but all sportsbikes are going to be. Litre bikes are essentially the same dimensions as supersports.
It doesn't really matter though, as you are moving around on the bike so much compared to a static position when riding on the road. Plus you aren't going to spend much more than 20 minutes max per session anyway.
