When I brought a 2nd hand bike, I don't even know how to tinkle with it in the first place, the stuff I mentioned were easily done without even the knowledge of certain stuff;
2nd hand bike
remove all the bike beside the brakes (or just the front), get a new rear wheel build by your LBS, learn how to add/remove chain and you're sorted.
unless the BB and crankset is damaged, just get them to put a cheap Andes one and you're sorted, yet you still be paying just half the price of the Plug and pretty much half the weight!
Got onto gbob and the hippy bike shop here in manchester and they mentioned a few things and asked to concider an SE bike or they could build something. I think im going to look into getting a decent 2nd hand frame and going from there, im going to pop in and have a chat with them about what im after next week i think.
again thanks for all the advice. -
I'm based in manchester, I'll go have a chat with the guys at GBH.
thanks for the adviceedit: asked another shop i wont mention and they were really off with me and just tried to force the fuji track on me when i was asking about having a bike built. I've got a basic understanding of what parts are in my pricerange from reading up on here. ill get on it and keep you posted

Gotcha, and a fair enough point. I whole heartedlty agree, because that was the vibe I was/is on with my MTBs. I came here before I bought my fixed, and was told to build it myself however I simply didn't have the requisite knowledge of parts and frames and the like to do it. I think only know after 5 months of listening and looking would I be able to put a decent build together that suits my perfectionist edge, but waiting would have meant 5 months of not riding fixed. An OTP afforded me the luxury of riding and learning, hence why I think it is good option for a first time buyer
This is what I'm thinking about atm, I don't really have the knowledge/tools to build myself a bike + I'm living in halls and have a tiny toom so I don't really have anywhere to keep all my shit. I just want to get cheapish OTP and get out on rides whilst I'm learning more through these threads and friends, whilst I'm saving some funds for building my own.
There seems to be quite a mixed opinion of the plug. I'm quite short (5'5") and looking around I haven't found many otp bikes which cater for this. I've tried asking around for people selling small frames/complete bikes here aswel (Manchester) and not had much luck. LBS has fuji track at £350 49-52cm (49 has 650c wheels) or I found an XS 2008 plug freestyler online at £409. I know it's not about looks but the plug looks alot sturdier than the fuji (although with the change from the fuji I could get myself a few cheap parts I guess). Not too sure.
And with the plug not sure whether I would need XS or S, going to get to a shop and try them out for size soon. -

Looking for a small (48-50cm) complete bike. The only half decent otp bike I can find in my size (im 5ft5) is the charge plug but I really cant afford to fork out £500+ at the minute. I have £250-300 to spend. Don't mind if it's a little roughed up but I'm not after a complete beater. I know i just sound lazy but it's hard to find complete builds on ebay or classifieds in my size, they're all built for people around 6ft and I haven't got the time or money to build myself a bike as I'm loaded up with work. If you're a shortarse like me and got an old spare bike or enough parts to knock one up let me know. I'm in Manchester but I would be prepaired to travel to pick it up/check it out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Not had a bike since my last one was stolen and I'm dying to get back out on the road.
Thanks

If you've not been to Holland yet, go.
Been quite a few times and always stay at a camp/caravan site at Duinrell Eurocamp at Wassenarr (40min drive or a nice bike ride from Amsterdam), It's quite cheap and most of the guests are german/dutch so you don't get much hassle. Everytime we hire out some undestructable bikes with coaster breaks from the site, which are so much fun. I have literally fallen in love with Holland for its cycle lanes. Whilst on a random all dayer, going through villages we were directed away from the roads where there were roundabouts and trafficlights especially for bikes. Absolutly amazing. Can't wait to get over there with a decent bike of my own! -

Hey guys. I'm from Blackpool but living in Manchester for uni at the minute. Always had
a massive interest in cycling but got put off as the last 2 bikes I put time and money
into ended up getting stolen. Since I've been in Manchester I couldn't help but notice all
the stunning road+track bikes I'd see flying past on Oxford road and from abit of browsing discovered fg. Back at home I've never really seen or experienced it apart from in the
artwork of Mike Giant (check out http://www.rebel8.com for their blog and clothing if you've not
heard of them). I'm dying to get myself hooked up with a bike and just get out exploring
around Manchester, getting a feel for fg and getting myself fit again! Only thing is
I'm currently broke and it's impossible to find a job round here! Think I might have to sacrifice going out for a month or two and chip into the next loan instalment for a bike.
Enjoying having a flick through the threads, learning more and seing some amazing (+some not so amazing) bikes.
Wish me luck

Think i'm going to have to save up a little bit for this one, can't really push to £500+ atm.
Jobless student! (I'm not lazy, no work going round here!). Last bike was stolen aswel (shite mtb) but at least i had wheels then. Looks like I might have to try and build myself a little beater for now or at least wait and see what the balance is at after next loan instalment.. -

Hey,
I'm one of those short people (about 5,5ft - 170cm) and I would really like to purchase Charge Plug Grinder bike. I checked Small size at Evans last year but it is slightly too big so it might be a bit risky in some situations. ;)
So now I'm looking for XS version but it is only listed at Charge website. I checked all online shops and I have never seen an actual XS version available at any shop. I emailed Charge but there was no answer from them since they do not sell their bikes.Maybe anyone here could give me some advice?
Thanks!
I'm a shortarse aswel, any look on finding an XS to try out? I'll have a look round here (manchester) and let you know if I find anything.
I'm a first year university student and unfortunatly even though I'm poor I've had a massive urge to get myself a fg bike since last summer but unfortunatly every time I've had money, it's had to go on other things, like house deposits.
I'm down to my last option, parting with my A4 Wacom Tablet, these things are going for around £320-350.
(Info here). It comes with everything listed apart from the box and spare nibs and it is in pretty much mint condition.
Will concider reasonable offers or part ex (the tablet and cash) for a bike in pretty good condition (would have to be quite a S bike though).
