Funny thing is that's my summer set up for fully self-supported camping.
Problem isn't so much weight but the volume as well. For winter l need the extra space so am looking for 4 pannier set up!

How does headset affect shimmy? I thought shimmy was caused by the resonance of frame design/weight. Perhaps a physicist can better explain it?

Bar bags are super handy for touring. I prefer the older style front rack bag as being mounted further down, it frees bar space, lower centre of gravity so handling is better, you can see your front wheel and it looks cooler!

Re weight distribution, l definitely felt frame flex and shimmy but that was more due to my frame tubing and design, but l didn't do wheeies on any hills. My bike fully loaded:

Interested in Mercian. Can you confirm its a KOM model and not Audax. What's largest tyre size frame can accommodate?

They had a stand @mcr velo jumble and the paint and finish on the exhibit bikes make me weak at the knees. If your frame is very special to you then worth it.

Panniers are heavyweight cottonduck (same as Carradice) so they can withstand plenty of punishment, plus they come with high-viz covers for serious rain!

Tent is double skin and waterproof. has 1500mm HH rating. will upload a pic to flickr link in a mo ^^

The front one is a Nitto M-18 - my vintage bar bag sits on mine and its v.nice. I would scrap the rear one (Nitto R-17 model??) as they can be quite flexy. Get a Tubus or Carradice saddle clip thing.

Brooks panniers, 1990s vintage cottonduck canvas, lots of pockets, complete with Hi-Viz rain covers, one pannier a little sun-bleached from commuting but will clean up v.nicely with some wax. Minor repair to one rail. The thread lining on the drawcords has come undone, if you can sew a button this is easily fixed. I'm told they're 35litre capacity which seems about right. Dimensions are 25cm wide x 33cm high x 11cm deep, 2kg weight/pair. Overall excellent condition. £SOLD

Been scanning over the Londontown.com site and they all seem pretty good, usual positive and negative reviews. Glancing at the menu's had me salivating! I've earmarked a few and will pick one depending on our mood!

I've UTFS but returned no good results. Thought l'd post on this foodie thread rather than start a new one. Can anyone recommend good tapas bars in central London? Not after OTT 5star stuff, just the kind of tasty, authentic, robust tapas you get at any decent bar in Spain. TIA!
