Offering Concorde Aquila frame and fork * SOLD *
Concorde were material supplier/sponsor for the 80s/early 90s PDM Concorde pro cycling team. They gained many victories including the 1988 TdF with Pedro Delgado. Other riders who raced for PDM Concorde were Breukink, Theunisse, Rooks, Kelly, Alcala among more. In '91 they left the tour due to the intralipid affair.
The Aquila was one of the top of the line offerings you could get. Tubing for the frame offered is SL, SLX or TSX. Overhere an early 90s catalogue that specs TSX for the Aquila >> on page eight
The frame shows sophisticated build quality. The frame is made by Bilato of Italy, who also builds for for example Ciocc.
Features:
- advanced Columbus tubing (SL, SLX or TSX)
- chrome fork and tail
- nice engravings on top fork crown
- sophisticated 'open' bb shell/cluster
- internal brake cable routing
- Seattube: 55cm c-c
- Toptube: 560mm
- Rear spacing: 130mm
- braze on for front mech
- braze on for race number under toptube
Condition:
It is a used frame that falls short for concours winning example, but is great for casual riding, commuting and so on. Chrome is very good and paint is quite good. Expect scratches and chips here and there. Only more serious bummer is a little rust at the entry of the brake cable. The former touched it up with silver. Can be made much better looking after a cleaning and touching up with white, as the surrounding area is white. Good thing is the place is not so very well visible, due to its position left under toptube. Structurally the frame is 100% sound. View pictures to form your own opinion. I took many.Comes with:
The frame can be acquired with the nice condition Italian bottom bracket pictured. The headset is not included.Looking for 125 GBP shipped

PS Are you in a desperate hurry to sell?
Not really. I am in the process of a cleaning right now, so I've offered and am offering multiple frames overhere and elsewhere lately. Stuff has to go, but it not necessarely has to be the Concorde. I could reconsider going on with the project, if much other frames leave. What me makes decide to offer it now is that I haven't a 2nd period correct Campag groupset laying around. The 1st is destinied to go on the PDM Concorde.

Currently I am building a PDM Concorde in my size. Spring is coming and it is going to be my ride for upcoming spring/summer. This nice tray of candies will come on >>
This is original team PDM Concorde kit.

- Clamp: the one with the "arrow" (and Gazelle logo) is quite okay. Haven't seen a single one that failed.
The one on the picture (Marktplaats) is the 1st version, with a smooth transition from braze-on block to tube. That's a weak spot. A crack (?) will appear on the transition in many cases. Sometimes, one half of the black may fall off completely.
Okay, I only now notice this one is not with the arrow clamp. I do have a friend with a Champion Mondial with a clamp alike the Marktplaats one and it has failed. Bummer of the nice frame. Did it ever became clear why they failed with this construction?

fluted seatpost
http://link.marktplaats.nl/334569151Very nice. That 'debbie' has some nice stuff. I spot also early Super Record for example.

I think the monostay is brazed. Not so much welding on steel frames in these days. I would guess the issue with the clamp is that the 2 blocks are very rigid and are shaped like an arrow that points forward. All stress will concentrated at that point at the joint, what could lead to deformation.
This is a nice example of a very sophisticated clamp solution >>

Sale is of frame only, but...
you need a fork with it?
No problem.
That can be solved quite easily.
I do have a bonded aluminum Koga-Miyata FullPro fork available. 1991 model and new old stock. The best stuff you could possibly have. It looks very good, is well made, light, stable an safe. It is partly painted though, so it needs to be stripped and polished. Once done you will have a hard time noticing it is not a Vitus.
The NOS Miyata fork is one like this one -->
Spot the differences with the original -->
With the Vitus the fork can be acquired for an additional 20 GBP. So 145 GBP for everything including shipping.

Thank you for the kind words
Both seattube and toptube measure 56cm center to center
It does thake a 1" headset
Rear end spacing is 130mm
I would think the frame dates from somewhere around 1990, but these Vitus' were made quite some period. I think from early 80s on to somewhere in the 90s. This makes period correct component selection a little easier.
