this morning, mini cab indicating right, but pulls in to park on the left... comes to a pretty much stop, then swings fully round to the right, he stopped as i was next to his window, shouting in his face from about 30cm's away ''YOUR INDICATING RIGHT BUT TURNING LEFT AND YOUR ON YOUR PHONE, YOU FUCKING PRICK"
Thats a pretty funny image you've given me, there.
Not a close call but earlier today someone pulled alongside me, beeped a lot, shouted a lot (didn't hear what, windows were closed. Who has their windows closed on a day like this?), gesticulated a lot, and drove off. The only thing I can think of that I was doing wrong was having the nerve to be on the road!

Anytime, really. I don't wanna do any marathons though.
Yesterday was supposed to be a short one, oops!
I would be up for an hour or 2 on wed afternoon say meet at 3pm. I live just off Charminster Rd if you guys are interested let me know and I'm not bothered where you want to go just nice to get out if the weather stays like this.
Sounds good to me, I'm in Winton so we can meet somewhere local.
Any preference on routes?

I think we should check out a couple of routes tuesday or wednesday (not thursday though - don't want to be knackered before KB).
Count me in. Where did you have in mind? Anyone else wanna come along for a ride tomorrow or Weds?
Im off to check out the B3073 between Christchurch and Hurn this afternoon, not done that stretch before.

Hellooooo,
I'm new to this, great to see other darzet people on 'ere not just them swanky city hipsters.
I live in Poole, just built up my first fixed gear.
I've only been riding it for a couple of weeks and it's pretty good fun(read terrifying), starting, stopping and going round corners giving me a few problems but no crashes..... as yet. There's a few hills near where I live so I've had to use a front brake otherwise I wouldn't have a hope in hell of stopping. I'm running 46x17 otherwise I can't get up the roads without zig zagging.
As for skidding... I've tried but my knees feel like they're going to explode, is this normal ?
Hey Stevieboy, good to hear from more people in the area. Yeah some of the hills around here can be quite a test on the old fixed, but you start to get used to them.
You sound like you're apologising for having a front brake, personally I'd never go without one, you can always stop quicker using your legs and the brake, and with the way some people drive, you'll need it!
As for skids, I still can't skid so I dunno.
After the ride yesterday I would like to propose a regular meeting. Doesn't have to be a big ride, just whatever we feel like on the day. Meeting at Poole Quay or Bournemouth seafront, something like that. Thoughts and suggestions on routes, times, locations, pubs, tea shops, etc., welcome.

whoever tagged 'Dicks for Fingers', I am making you a statue for your heroism.
Ed you poor chap, I know how you feel. Getting Armadillos on was a fucking travesty. Only pinched one inner though...Armadillos are a dream compared to my Continental indoor trainer tyre. Only have the one geared road bike so I've had to be swapping tyres quite a lot over winter, always hate having to put that bastard on. Always pisses me right off, the armadillo feels so soft and friendly after wrestling with cunt of a tyre.

Just looked at the calshot activities centre site, no need to worry about bikes etc.:
Stage One - Taster sessions
Excellent fun for people wanting to try the track. All abilities are catered for, you just need to be able to ride a bike. You will progress at a pace suitable to the group, allowing you to learn the basics and get a real buzz from riding the track. We supply bikes, helmets and first rate coaching.

emmeff, are you a member of the Poole Wheelers then? I've been thinking it would be cool to go along with one of the local clubs, just not had the chance yet.
On that note, does anyone know much about the local clubs and which are good/friendly/not too serious etc. I don't want to turn up to a ride when it's their TT team trainig session or something!

I've never had pedal strike on my fixed, was talking about this with Lucas yesterday when we stopped for the mid-ride pint and we decided it would be pretty hard to get the pedal down that far. I'm still pretty new to fixed so tend to take it slower on tight corners.
Have had it happen on my racer though, luckily not bad enough to throw me off, but enough to kick out the rear wheel and shake me up a bit. -
Turtles, a little out of plaice aren't they?
