Lucky I ran into arvy on the way home tonight or I'd have not bothered and would've been stuck at home watching Barca not thrash Chelsea. Good to see a decent turnout, even tho' it seemed to be at the expense of a minor celeb.
Apologies for not managing much in the way of formal introductions, if anyone's trying to put a face to the name it's the baldy/beardy/gingery one.

Unfortunately can't manage a reappearance at drinks for a few weeks due to work/football/holiday. Thought I'd drop in to let you know that having done Swain's Lane on the roadie tonight, it's in the process of being resurfaced (or they're doing summat to the speed humps at least*) and is slightly more challenging/annoying than usual.
There's a good chance that most of the effort trying to go uphill will just send loose stones flying back towards those unfortunate enough to be behind you. Having said that, there's probably never been better motivation to get in front before the cemetary gates.
*with any luck they're removing them. What's the point having speed humps on a steep bastard hill when the only direction you're allowed to drive it is up?

Don't worry about it, come along, you can just sit out the ritual bumming by moonlight.
Err, I think that might be what I meant by too much too soon. Still, it's reassuring to know the moonlit bumming is optional.
Anyhow I reckon I'm gonna sit this one out. I should make it to beers regularly enough, and hopefully sign meself up for longer rides later in the year.

Was great to meet people tonight, thanks all for making me feel very welcome. Think I'm getting the hang of this one gear thing, but it's a bit weird tanking it back down the hill when spinning yer legs feels like yer chain's come off. I suppose fixed would let you know it's still there, but I'm not sure whether to add that to the pros or cons.
At least I managed Swains Lane while wondering what all the fuss was about. Actually that's a massive lie. I did manage Swains Lane, but the legs were really damn close to giving up and only sheer bloody mindedness multiplied by peer pressure got me up there. First pint after that was the best I've had in ages.
Same again next week with any luck :)

Would like to join in the North thing tomorrow evening, but I'm not guaranteed to get outta work in time to meet in Traf Sq at 7 so don't hang around. I do however know exactly where the Flask is (and the Angel if the Flask is empty) and more importantly, I know how to get there without going up Swains bloody Lane. Hopefully see you tomorrow...
Both I guess, it being a Juve tracky top. Was there another baldy/beardy/ginger there? I hate not being special.
