This rain or shine?
Moonshine?
Hopefully won't be a problem. Metcheck reckons clear skies and a low of 12c. Fingers crossed it doesn't change.

I'll stick the route on my 705 this evening (although definitely wouldn't recommend total reliance on either me or technology). I did think it looked like there might be a better alternative when leaving St. Albans which would avoid going through Hemel Hempstead. Avoids the A road, and is a couple of miles shorter at the expense of 150' or so more climbing...
According to the satellite view, the road is closed after it goes under the M1 but if google reckons the route's ok, I'm assuming the images are out of date. I can put both routes in at any rate, and if anyone has suggestions for an alternative route back I can do that as well.

I'm up for Bletchley (and back should be doable) if I can give my road bike a shakedown before the weekend.
Rather than going across London first thing I'll get on somewhere around Archway/Highgate - anyone else doing likewise? Don't worry about whether I'm there or not as you go through.

Dave Gorman showed up at the Flask after all the pizza people had done one. Really nice bloke, despite being a bearded gingerenger.
He had a bit of an spd moment trying to exit the pub up that tricky slope, and with not enough forward momentum, toppled over in embarrassing fashion. Unfortunately only Spins and the other bloke (who's real name I know but forum etiquette dicatates I don't use it (chequered shirt, talks a bit)) saw it, but I'm pretty sure they got a glimpse of his tattoo. It really was Dave Gorman.
I got home without any sort of incident at all.

Five minutes ago. Genesis Flyer with red bar tape and matching saddle outside Londis off Tufnell Park Rd.
Saw the blokey unlocking it when I left the shop. I'm now a bit weirded out by the fact that I'm not the only middle-aged slightly balding gingerenger on a Flyer in Tufnell Park. My bar tape is (well, was) white which should hopefully avoid any future identification issues.

i got last chase place on the ride yesterday, i'm going fixed on 48-16 because i don't have any other options. how does the ditchling compare to getting up hampstead heath to the flash?
Quickly figured these out off the net. Swain's Lane is the steepest route up to Highgate, probably knock a couple of percent off the gradients for the others...
Swain's Lane Ditchling
Length 0.6m 0.9m
Total climb 223ft 523ft
Avg gradient 7% 11%
Max gradient(ish) 15% 23%
I'm doing the overnight one at the end of the month on 48:18 (about 70"). Can manage the run up to Highgate without killing meself now, but grinding up the steeper bits of Ditchling will be something else. Can't decide if I'm looking forward to that bit or not. -

Went a bit weird after the work-related beer/dinner/wine thing tonight and rode up Swains for nothing other than the hell of it. Swung by the pizza place to say hello but you'd all done one.
Feel quite light-headed now. Reckon that's a sign you shouldn't do a hill without a beer at the top, despite having had plenty beforehand.

Here's the route: http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=8898
It's missing a bit after we stopped in Barnet cos I forgot to restart the damn GPS. Think I'm right in saying we carried on Wood St/Barnet road, then took a left onto Barnet Gate Ln/Mays Ln.
Check the 'Show Elevation Data' button on the right to see some hills and shit.

Enjoyed that. Nice day out, good people, no drama.
Rolled down West Hill after leaving The Flask, and suddenly thought it was a good idea to do Swains on my beer legs (realised I need the training after trying to keep up with Texas and Dave up North Hill. Bastards). Not bad first time round anyway, so I did it again. Second time was a bit harder so figured that would do for the day, but when I got to the roundabout at the bottom of Wests my stupid bike suddenly hung a left again and I was going for it a third time.
Sensibly decided that were enough and called it quits. More beer :)

Awesome ride, that was. Congratulations and thanks to everyone involved, particularly Oliver (good effort on the century) and his lieutenants. And CG for the spoke cards of course.
Still somewhat annoyed with myself this morning for not cracking Ditchling. Bailed on the last of the steep bits but got back on 50 feet later and rode the rest. Convinced if I'd HTFU I would've been able to make it, at least I've got summat to aim for next time out. At least I can be happy with 72 miles for the day on my first proper ride fixed, next time I'm bored I might work out how many revolutions it was.
Great to meet people new and old alike, hope to see some of you on the Dynamo next weekend.
