Plane towards? Ok, the vice was a Christmas present so haven't got round to doing anything with it yet so will have a think.
Cheers for the pointers on Howdens Vs Wren. I heard there had been issues with fitters at wren being of questionable quality, some great and some not so great. The builder has been using Howdens for years so he should get a discount. As my Dad has used him amd.recommended him hopefully he won't be sticking too much on -
We moved about 3 months ago, both our companies went fully flexible in lockdown v1 back in March which was the last time either of us went into the office. I can't see that changing in the next 3 to 6 months too. I'm in fintech so pretty flexible attitude to location and remote working. Not a boast post but as we were on London salaries does mean our disposable income is much higher, our flat is now a house with a big garden and more importantly for me a garage I can aim to fill with 2 wheel toys. One thing I've noticed is tradesmen are soz so much more responsive and friendlier than London too
I expect to get the train down maybe twice a month tops and I can do an overnighter if required but if we can manage a year I can't see too much of a need. Office interaction is nice, if I was a junior or earlier in the career then it would totally suck and huge disadvantages

We went through a very similar thought process but ended up in Chester. Idea was Wales and th hills there. Unfortunately we're not allowed over the border at the moment so meh
We're both in jobs originally in London but both told we could work flexibly so we packed our bags, grabbed the kids and headed out.

Trying to figure out the best spot for the vice is. I'm right handed and it has a swivel base.
Two spots are the left hand corner or 4/5ths of the way along to the right. I'm probably just overthinking things but a man needs a hobby. The corner would give me more options on where to stand but just have the feeling it would also be in the way more.
Is there anything to consider or a general rule I'm not aware of?

I've pushed the button on a Cube Editor with mudguards and changed bog standard tyres to gravel ones. Should be arriving in the next day or 2. It's similar to Cube Traveller without the Dyno lights and kick stand
Basically I wanted something that could be a dad wagon, handle a commute, deal with roads as well as some light off roads and tracks. Impossible to find something that will do all those well but looks like this will be above average in most areas.
It's belt drive with Alfine hub so 11 gearshttps://www.cube.eu/en/2021/bikes/urban-mobility/commuting/editor/cube-editor-greynsilver/
Not that dissimilar to the Shard on previous page but at least I'd heard of cube
This is the before and after photos
