Got the standing desk set-up finally. I'm now based and set up in the spare room as I was kicked out of the living room. It is a mess with the cables underneath but I do like it. I did screw a multi socket plug to the underneath to ensure nothing got pulled off if I went too high
One thing that intrigued me was all the instagrammers who had nice pictures in black.frames on their desks. Surely it just leaves a streak up and down the wall when they raise it or lower it?
I need to sort some storage solutions out for pens and pads. Also toying with a laptop drawer as now I got the separate webcam don't need to keep opening and closing the laptop.

We had a log burner installed last month, a mi tinderbox which was the smallest but ranked high on efficiency and heat output with a big window
The first few times its used it does stink
On a side note the fitter recommended going to b&m for their seasoned hard wood that is in the plastic bag rather than nets. It's also certified and kiln dried so ready to go. I popped down and it's cheap as chips at £4 bag,

It might be an LED or possibly just a bog standard old 40w bayonet bulb I had around as I remember changing it a few years back. It is on at max a couple of hours a month if that. The PIR might be on more due to the family of foxes that run past in the night. I'm fine with the old bills at £90 (which were split two ways) but £1450 is taking the piss.

There was some talk about leaseholder Vs freeholder. I'm a long leaseholder and currently in "discussion" with the freeholder who are a large London based housing association over service charges and communal electricity bill. Most of the time they're ok, like a silent partner who randomly writes letters and S20s
Some background, my flat is one of two 2bed flats in a converted house. Communal area is a v small hallway off the shared front door.
Electricity bill for about 3 years was consistently around £90/year. 2019/2020 it went to £750 and then last year 2020/2021 it went to £1400. For the communal electricity alone!
As you can imagine I'm not happy and they don't seem in any rush to rectify. I've got someone who has at least asked for the meter reading last week and so will follow up at the end of this week. I'm not sure if they think our property is a large block of flats so they just tried their luck but it seemed to be a random doubling of cost from last year. For one internal light and one external PIR I'm damn sure they wouldn't use that much leccy unless we're powering the whole street.
Any way, rant (for the moment) over.

I finally managed to get my Dell docking station to work, turns out I had been using the laptop power pack which was 65w and it needed the proper charger which is 130w. It makes life much easier as now I can use both (borrowed from work) 27inch monitors.
I want to keep the laptop tucked away and I'm going to o screw a cage to the underneth of the desk to do this. It means getting a webcam for the team's calls, is there a cheap forum choice on a budget of as little as possible as work wont reimburse me? I decided using an old phone is going to be a faff and with the laptop being relatively locked down tough to set up.

Thanks for flagging, saw that but I'm aiming for a brushless set as heard they can last longer. Also think it is sold out as well. My current combi drill is Makita but probably 10yrs old and battery is shot.
@Señor_Bear Perfect , I remember seeing that set about a month ago but it was sold out too. I thought it was a special offer that had finished.
Good to get the extra battery included too. -
I'm looking for a brushless set and saw this Milwaukee set at £269. Is there anything else similar worth considering? Ideal budget was around £200 but for brushless and more the 2a battery I think I might be optimistic (unrealistic)

So we're finally trying to unpack the last of the boxes and I have this one of DVDs. We don't have a dvd player any longer but there are a few classics in here I'd want to keep and watch. What's the best way to (a) rip them and then (b) store them. I presume the latter would be on some kind of hard drive that I can just plug to the TV but it's the former I'm not sure how to do these days. I'm guessing some of them will also be protected too but as it is mine wasn't sure where things were these days with making ripping simpler
