That is ECCA festival weekend - 2 road races on in the morning and a 25 TT in the afternoon to the west of Chelmsford. I don't know your route and you may already be aware, but I suspect you might want to make sure you're not using the same roads at the same time as the events.
Full details on the [not particularly user friendly) ECCA website ...

There is no prescribed limit (except for mechanically propelled vehicles). Which appears to be the point that TheCatMan and I are both making, albeit in different ways.
It's an offence to be incapable, but, as yet, there is not test for what constitutes incapable. You may not, for example, be compelled to provide a breath / urine test, and it is not an offence to refuse one.
I guess it would be similar (or the same as) the roadside impairment test they use for drugs; walking in a straightline, finger to nose (your own, not theirs) blah blah. I doubt they would be arsed in all honesty.

Baking powder? Section 30 Road Traffic Act 1988 makes it an offence to be incapable or out of control. It doesn't make drinking & cycling illegal though.
What offence is it then?
ahhh wonderful pendantry. Drinking and driving a car technically isn't illegal either. Section 30, RTA 1988 however *does *make it an offence to cycle whilst unfit through drink or drugs. The offence is not "out of control" as you describe; it is "not capable of having proper control", a subtle and very subjective difference that could well see you commiting a criminal offence if you have a few shandies and cycle home.

+1. keep straight and all will be fine.
Ahhh, the make-believe world of perfectly level, straight and unobstructed roads. Unfortunately most of the ones I use are beset with junctions, cambers, potholes, roundabouts, bends (I know, IMAGINE THAT!!), other roads users, other road users using said road badly, blah blah blah.
If you haven't come off on ice this year it is because:
a) you were riding on 2 1/2 inch knobblies
b) it wasn't real ice (frosty bits don't count I'm afraid)
c) it wasn't a big patch of ice and you got traction back as soon as you lost it
d) you got lucky
e) you realised that minus 7 degrees overnight might lead to ice and avoided untreated surfaces or just got the bus
f) you ride a trike with a basket on the front
Most people get in under (d) and (e) I reckon.

@ catman - thanks for the word up. been away for the weekend so will get a good look at your info and change the route. this is small fry for the TNRC as problems go ;)
will we be seeing you out there?Unlikely, I'm all out of proper lights - waiting on wiggle for a delivery.
No moonlight + silly little flashing commuter light + over 20 mph = bad idea.
Enjoy the ride!

Loving your work Clint; great mid-Essex route. Takes in most of my training routes and passes within 1/2 mile of the ranch - should be nice and quick if it's dry.
However, hate to be a killjoy but I noticed a road closure sign today on the A414 at the point I think your route crosses it (Cooksmill Green). Just googled it and it looks like that particular part of your route may be impassable... http://tinyurl.com/ny5wn7 . You are going anti-clockwise right?
An alternative route is to carry on down Highwood Road to The Causeway instead of turning left at Wyse's Road, then cross over the A414 at the RAB into Writtle, Right at the next RAB, take the first left, then turn left at the T junction (Victoria Road) and on to Newney Green . From there you have a couple of options to rejoin your route.
As I said, this is home turf for me, if you need any more info PM me.

First view of Ventoux... 531.
Amazing huh. Rode it last week, my research in the weeks leading up to it to led me to some rubbish forum or other where some guy was pontificating about the Ventoux and how it wasn't much to look at from ground level. I can only conclude he was bullshitting and has only seen it in books. The place is awesome - I love the way you see the whole mountain from miles off, like some kid's drawing, a big triangular thing plonked down on the earth. The stretch in the woods will haunt me forever. Enjoy - and go wide at Chalet Raynard - its the only flat bit for 21kms! My humble opinion is that Galibier is harder by virtue of how difficult the last 8ks or so are after 20k odd of climbing - the bit in the woods on Ventoux is however quite mental. It is splitting hairs of course - one incredibly difficuly climb being slightly more difficult than the other incredibly difficult climb!

No. It was a serious question. The tacx, at least the one I own, is designed to be used with their skewer - its a fair bit bigger than a normal QR skewer and fits the retaining holders perfectly.
I'm guessing, being as you are talking about a track bike, that you may not actually be using said turbo trainer as per manufacturers instructions. RTFI.
Shaftesbury CC day at Hog Hill this Saturday.
Go race at 3pm (novices, non-licence holders, 4ths with no points) - only 30 mins (or 8 or 9 times up the hill!). Enter on the line - no complicated forms, promise.
Other races on the programme - see http://questronics.org.uk/Shaftesbury/reports/2010/Hog%20Hill.html
