Slippery developer rant!
There are some new flats nearing completion on a site that starts literally 15' from our works premises. The closest block to us is designated for part rent part buy and the show flat is being kitted out ready for the launch days. The launch days are this Sunday and the following Saturday.
Why have they chosen these dates? Well, we work mostly Monday to Friday. We start at 7am and we make a fair bit of noise with anything from van doors being slammed shut, our metal doors rattling open, general metal working and loading scaffolding. Also Millwall are playing at home this Saturday and we're just around the corner from them.
So the poor punters are being invited round when the area is like a ghost town only to move in to find us as their early morning wake up call.
We've been here over 20 years but I'll bet that won't stop the council's environmental people slapping a 'shut up' order on us!
Think I'll prepare some posters to warn unsuspecting buyers.

Just heard an advert for this company on the radio. It's pushing the benefits of using conference calling rather than driving to meetings because of all the problems associated with using the roads. It rattles off a list of problems such as boy racers, lane hoggers, no indicators, permanent indicators and the like. Every type of driver in the list was what would be considered a bad driver. The last item on the list was cyclists.
This seems to be placing ALL cyclists in the same category as BAD drivers and cannot be right.Anyone else heard it?

Is anyone planning on heading to the final stages this weekend? Do you know what kind of crowds it pulls on the central London stage?
The finish line area gets busy and it can be hard to get a decent position against the barriers but elsewhere it's generally fairly quiet. The u-turn by the Tower is a good viewpoint.

I'm thinking about installing an electric towel rail/radiator in my bathroom. I'm happy that it falls outside any of the controlled zones and my plan is to fit the element, mount it on the wall, fill it and route the cable through the door frame to a socket located just outside on the landing. I'll then get an electrician to fit a fused spur unit, wire it in and do the necessary notification that it complies with building regs.
Has anyone done a similar job? Any pitfalls to avoid? Any recommendations for fused spur units with a timer preferably in stainless (I've heard stories about their poor reliability). How much should I expect an electrician to charge for the above? Can anyone recommend one who'll do this in South London for a reasonable price?
Some light reading here

"need for modernisation" and no interior photos = shit hole, right?
shit hole translates to blank canvas in estate agent speak.

'Blog is just one letter longer than bog which is where it all began.
A mesmerizing look at factory life which will open the eyes of the uninitiated and bring back many fond memories for those of us who have worked in them.

Congratulations guys. I only topped up my holding to keep my % but will add my name to the standby list should any drop out.
Go have a drink to celebrate then go make us proud!Where is this standby list? I missed out due to slackness and ineptitude (my own) but would still like in if possible.
I tried to get on the standby list but get this message pop up - "Because this listing is in its standby period, you must have enough funds in your account before you can invest."
Does this mean I need actual funds deposited into Seedrs to get on the standby list?

It's interesting to look at the investors' profiles: almost everyone on there has only invested in Microcosm. That seems to show that most investors are On Here. I wo der how many Seedrs folk actually jumped on? LFGSS has probably added a lot of new folk to Seedrs.
Gavin Jordan seems to have a fair spread in his portfolio. He rates Microcosm fairly highly if his investment is anything to go by compared with his others.

That sounds like a possible self install which is illegal if not Gas Safe Certified.
If you are prepared to do so, you could instruct the Solicitor to exchange and complete without them but I would get it checked yourself before using it if you choose that route.
Maybe have a sum of money held back for check / repairs? -
I showed him the problem and he said he'd take it into his workshop and see what he could do.
He came back out about a minute later with the lockring tightened. I said thank you and was all prepared to leave the shop when he told me he had tightened it with a screwdriver and hammer.
He then said to me 'that'll be £11.50 please".
The bike is now, back home, with the lockring tightened properly by myself, with no noticeable damage.
Hang on! The mechanic didn't have the correct tools bet still managed to carry out the repair effectively and without any damage! He's not a bodger, he's a genius!!
Go back, pay him double and then have his children! -
Not too sure what the LTDA is trying to prove with this but I guess they're not hoping to make friends!?
