I bought the frame and some bits from Matt some time ago via the forum classified's... you may recall?
I decided that it should really be preserved in full Keirin spec, as raced by him in Japan with considerable success during the 2009/10 season. so a Keirin wheelset, in immaculate condition, was obtained at a very reasonable price from NJS Exports, who were very good to deal with, along with the correct Dura Ace chainring and sprocket, and some other bits from other sources. The original stem is a bit extreme at 140mm, but Matt is a big bloke!

So my 25th anniversary Ron Cooper Columbus SL refurb project is coming along nicely. Here's what it looked like back in the day. Excuse the dodgy NDS pic - I'm not sure what came over me, especially as the Stronglight chainset was one of the nicest things on it.
Here's me taking it along to Colour Tech recently for the new paint job, and bumping into the man Ron himself. 80-odd years young and still welding away! Spot the lovely Cinelli XA stem which unfortunately had to be hacked out. I've sourced a replacement 1A, which is in better condition anyway. (Cheers J.D.)
I effectively replaced the bike with a PX carbon for everyday duties about three years ago but I couldn't bring myself to get rid of the Ron, so the idea with the rebuild was to get it into shape with modern parts but sympathetic styling, as a Sunny Day Special. "Period-correct" was never gonna happen if that meant downtube shifting and 6-speed on the back. So I've gone with full SRAM Force groupset and a nice pair of wheels built by Harry Rowland, Ambrosio Excellight on Novatec hubs. The only surviving components are the Cinelli Campione Del Mondo bars and a Dura Ace AX aero seatpost. (Graphics for which were wearing away badly so I did some judicious scrubbing and it's come up rather nice.) Together with some gum wall tyres, Fizik Arione saddle/white Microtex bartape, I'm happy I've got the old school/new gear balance about right for my tastes.
Currently awaiting delivery of a Stronglight headset and Columbus SL tube decals, then I'll be shipping everything round to the LBS for building. Apart from a lack of tools beyond the usual allen keys and spanners, I've never set up STIs in my life, so might as well get it done properly. Besides, the LBS in question is Vaidas in Honor Oak, all of 50 yards away from Ron's old shop where the frame was made in 1987, so it's all rather apt. I couldn't help myself though, knocked it all up after I picked up the frame yesterday, and it'll look something like this:
Setting up sti's is so easy.... download instructions from the manufacturers websites for guidance. Really far easier than you might think + its more satisfying to do it yourself + it doesn't cost anything. Nice bike!!

Not sealed but figured progressive grubiness would darken them to complement the seat. But I did read up om shellacing including how to match Brooks honey. Having said that they're were 8 quid. I'll double check and see where it takes me......
Cork grips + shellac = slippery!!! Don't do it. You are right that a bit of grubbiness will be fine. Lovely bike!!

Two high quality French frames.
- Urago was a maker in Nice and frames are easily identifiable by the wonderful wrapover seat stays unique to this maker. Urago himself is pictured on the head badge wearing his Stayer's helmet.

Frame is 22 inches c to t, rear spacing 120. 700c's fit with mudguard clearance. French threads, good Stronglight BB, headset well worn. Small dents to top of chainstays where rack was bolted on, easily filled before refinish, otherwise good. Light frame, probably 531 or Vitus. Needs repaint.
£90
- Goëland - Louis Moire was one of the Paris based 'constructeurs' along with Herse and Singer. This frame probably dates from the 60's. Touring frame built from sturdy tubing. 24 3/4 inches c to t. 110 rear spacing, built for 700c's. Most of original paint and box lining good, but some careful touching up required particularly around BB, to save original finish. Hand painted name. Beautiful seat cluster and very nicely filed lugs. Headset missing top race. All French threads of course. More information on maker here:

£140

try around 800x600, that should work fine.
You seem to be doing this correctly:
(it's not a huge disaster if you end up with 'just' a link, by the way. It means that people have to click that, but the huge image doesn't load automatically, which is obviously why they were replaced by links in the first place.)
that's better!! Many thanks for your help!!
Very tempted by your lovely Mercian. Does it have toe overlap? Looks like it with those clearances. Thanks
