Dont talk to me about conti ultra sport.
They are rubbish.
Brand new on my new build 1952 Claud Butler.
1st puncture in 20 miles (and using conti inner tube), 27 x 1 1/8 @110 psi
2nd puncture on Tweed Run on Saturday
Urghh
Side wall and tread is very thin.
Been commuting for 1 year at 10 miles/day on Conti City Ride 700 x 32 @ 100 psi - No problems.
Am I just unlucky? -

Anybody heading down from Norwich or Cambridge on Saturday morning.
I will be on the train at Cambridge Railway Station at 09.27 or 10.27 heading onwards to Liverpool Street in the East arriving at 10.43 or 11.43 respectively. (Apparently engineering works into and out of Kings Cross mean bus transfer so cannot take bike on the bus).
Look out for me - I'll be wearing a Harris tweed jacket and with a vintage Claude Butler!!!!
Final decision on times depending on ride starting times.
Toodle Pip.

I have just encountered the same problem. Looked into seperate cycle insurance - waaay tooo expensive.
Described bike and added to household insurance. SAGA (Can't you tell how old I am?) offered no objections. (Included some modern bikes as well)
The cost was minimal.
Now, the bit that is unknown is their ability to pay up in the event of a claim (My 1952 CB is probably stealable).
How do I test their word / the policy reliability?
So far it only seems in the event of real loss! -

The diameter of the frame cups should be marked on them. Once you know this then you have to measure the inside diameter of the head tube. The cups need to be a few thou (inches) smaller. Reaming is a metal removal process to remove very small amounts of material to just size, or even 'round' the headtube.
The cups must be pressed in 'square'.
The crown bearing is also a press fit.
The stack height of the bearing set must also be considered to ensure that the steerer tube is long enough to ensure sufficient engagement of the threaded top bearing and lock nut.
Do not force the bearing cups into the headtube - you will stretch the tube. Conclusion = Go to the LBS or another with knowledge, tools, experience.

My project nearing completion :
1952 Claud Butler Jubilee
Forks back from re-chroming last week.
Frame blast cleaned. Now got to paint it.
NOS 27" rims, Cinelli stem, North Road bars upside down.
Tange H/set, machined crown bearing to fit 27.4
Rode it for couple of months in the summer, with gearing at 39x17 (39 is inner ring from a Shimano double set up, used on the outer ring position) and I am a virgin fixed gear rider.
Rode very nicely. Now in pieces for painting. -

My 52 Claud Butler is project is moving VERY slowly.
See that you are down for the Vintage Jersey Ride II. I'm nowhere near ready. Have spotted a nice Raleigh jersey though.1.Emilio666

Well I cannot believe its nearly 2 weeks since the greatest event ever.
T&J. I know its been said a thousand times already but I must add another thank you for a fabulous day. Fantastic event, fantastic company.Well done.
Just wish we were playing it all over again tomorrow!
Miss Kitty - The B&W photograph of spudger and myself is brilliant. I do hope that your Union Jack flag that I so gallantly rescued is back in its rightful place on your dressing table!!
Thanks to the 'tail end charlie' marshall that stayed with me whilst I repaired a 'puncture' near Jermyn Street.
Thanks to the chap that gave me a sip of his ice cold gin in the basketball court - he saw me replacing the tyre and rear wheel again.
Can 2011 be any better - You bet it can.
ps. The 2 'punctures' that I got during the day were actually pinch punctures caused by a Skabs Anti Puncture liner - the tube got nipped by the over-lapping ends!! Beware anybody else using this stuff. £6 a strip - Its rubbish.
