Hi all,
I'm sure you'll all be suprised to hear that all is well!
Over 2 weeks of occasional a to b riding, hopping up, dropping down curbs and general round town stuff and nothing has broken (yet).
I'm 14 stone 7lbs and have ridden with rucksack full of shopping for probably a third of the time. Only done about 150 miles tho'
Would you believe it if I said the wheels still run true?
Taken the back break off and thinking of taking off the free wheel from the other side of the hub, if I do it should get down to the 24lbs stated weight for the bike (just over at the moment)on another note, is it just me that thinks the frame looks a lot like the charge plug? (sorry if this offends Plug riders)

Q1: Do you have fliers/spoke cards in your spokes? no
**Q2: Which of the following do you do on your fixed-gear bike **(indicate all that apply):
get from 'A' to 'B'**Q3: Do you ever use a mudguard on your fixed gear bike? **
No but thinking about it.Q4: How do you feel a mudguard affects the aesthetics of fixed gear bikes in general?
- Disrupts/spoils/makes worse.
but the lack of one spoils my look (wet road shit up my back)
Q5: If you get a nipple in your pork scratchings, is this lucky or unlucky?
nauseous. - Disrupts/spoils/makes worse.

Pulled apart the BB to see why it sounded so bad, you guessed it , no grease. That was expected tho’ the finger tight cups weren't. Put it all back together with a plenty of grease and tightened WITH A SPANNER. While I had my hands dirty I swapped the sprocket for one I had lying about (+ 1 tooth) and the lock ring was only finger tight too. Is this the norm for new bikes (not had a new bike since my Grifter about 30 years ago) every other bike I've had has been pre owned or put together by me from bits.

If the forum bike idea is still running there's a pre-owned one here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=130279917172

replace the blade in your cutter, it'll cost you pennys (assuming it's just the cutting wheel you've broken) and try again but only wind it in a little, run it around a few times 'till it feels easy to turn, wind in a little and repeat. I've cut the stearer on 3 sets of forks and a few bars too. just take it easy.

I had thought about sending it back to the factory for a propper referb. the frame was a gold colour then the transfers were taped over an the rest sprayed black. NOT BY ME. It probably is worth doing properley. the whole thing stands me to about £25. the frame and wheels came out of the back of my father-in-laws shed and the other bits are bits I had lying around or cycle fayre finds.

the idea was to ride it while I made some canges to my old Mercian. Its rolling on tubs at the moment and I've never been too happy about goin too far from home on them. fancied trying to lace some new rims to the old campag record hubs, and getting the frame powder coated and a few other bits and bobs. Got to get it home first, then it looks like all my time will be taken up repairing this POS.

HI all.
Yes I've gone and done it. the other night in a drunken stooper i bought one of these
I know you all said not too but the voices in my head kept on telling me it would be a good idea.It arriver this morning and was together in 30 minutes,(after I'd straightened out the front drop outs so I could get the wheel in) and i was straight out. a quick ride down to the road to make sure everything was ok and back home. Took the forks off to see why they felt so notchy and found an extra ball bearing in there (all the spaces in the racers top and bottom were full) Spare? Packed it with graese now all ok.
Headed off for an hour (about 10 miles) and half way in the bottom bracket started making the most awful grinding noise. That'll get stripped down later, don't think the crank arms will hold up to too much abuse either.Lets hope it holds together long enough for me to get my old Mercian home.

dont be too hard. giant TCR gets used for the long rides, the unipack was only ever going to be for a bit of fun because I was missing my other fixed (still to bring it over from Spain) I just expected it to be in a corner of the garage in need of new parts by now, fat lad and cheep bike and all that.'
