You normally only use those when the water is to warm to wear a wetsuit.
they are only made for swimming. I'd recommend to buy/hire a wetsuit and wear a triathlon suit underneath.
Once you come out of the water you take off the wetsuit and do the rest of the race in just the trisuit....

entered the first ever brighton full marathon today in april next year, looking forward to it

that must be quite a hilly course...

I'm looking to run a marathon in october in 3:15 (hopefully) ...
I suppose I will have to to some track training for this. So far I managed without but 'only' (was quite pleased) got to 3:35 in Hastings last december.

After having bumped into and watched a bit of an Ironman event on holiday I think I want to do the Triathlon next year.

great stuff! that's how I got into it as well. When I watched an Ironman for the first time I was so excited I nearly signed up for one the year after....
