I did it last year. Went down to BeSpoked in Bristol. However, rode riverside paths out of London, then from Windsor back on quietish roads till after Hungerford. Even then it was a bit rough off and on till Devizes and I went on to the country lanes around Etchilhampton at one point. Got bogged down in mud which as I was carrying camping kit wasn't great! From there the K&A is fine though. So, if you're planning to follow the waterside paths all the way, it will be a tough ride. Im not sure its absolutely worth it, because the countryside lanes are lovely too. And much easier! But then Im getting old. If you have the time, its worth stopping off in Bradford on Avon. About a mile up from the village centre are the Moulton workshops. I was lucky enough to pop by when they had a bit of an anniversary gig going on. Fascinating array of Moultons on display.

Been delivering some bike training with our local scouts in Deptford. Not one of them turned up with a helmet. We were mostly doing the mechanics bit, so it wasn’t a huge issue, although we had planned to cover correct fitting. You can do that with any old helmet. The whole set of badge requirements for scouts is pretty extensive and will take ages to get through. If a youngster gets through all of it, I’d be very unhappy if they were refused their badge just because they didn’t have a helmet. But once the badge is awarded, surely it couldn’t be taken away if they were spotted riding without one. Think of all those stitches you’d have to unpick!

I'll take that as a compliment! I think ...Thanks for posting Peter's track of the route, Ludd. Not sure what to do with a gpx, mind. Maybe today's the day I work it out. More of an OS man.
I still use OS. So much information in such a handy little package. I love 'em. Things of beauty. I have two large boxes full, mostly Scotland and northern England. I guess it's also the route finding technique I grew up with, hill walking and climbing, as well as cycling, so it's what I'm used to. Looking at those lines on a Garmin, for me, is like trying to learn a foreign language.
However, I did manage to source enough money, through birthdays and Christmas, from family, to eventually purchase a Satmap. OS maps on a GPS.
Oh, and by the way, great ride yesterday. Totally in agreement with that. YACF and LFGSS sweeping through the Essex countryside as one. -

I've just bought a classic 1970's racer with all original parts.. I'm looking for some 26 x 1 1/4 inc 597 tires (with original bronze/yellow stripe) as the tires on it are quite a bit worn. Does anyone know if 26 inc wheels are still made or where I can get some old ones?
I have a Holdsworth Equipe which was my first proper bike at the age of 16 which came with 26 x 1 1/4 wheels originally. I still have a front wheel if you want it. However, it's a steel rim! I think you may have trouble finding anything else. I had a real problem sourcing replacement wheels/rims of this size last year when I built up the Holdsworth again and in fact I ended up fitting 700c wheels in the end- which just about fit the tiny frame. The only 26 1 1/4's I could find for it were NOS steel rims from SJS. I have a couple of tyres to fit these wheels as well but they are just plain old black. They are NOS and I have not used them. If you want wheels and/or tyres they are yours for nothing but the energy you'll need to get to London SE23 and back.

I do hope the rider is not too badly hurt. I thought there was a lorry ban on Romney Rd. 7.5t plus.
