Morning All,
A friend of mine had his beloved Charge Plug stolen from inside his shed in Brockley on Monday night. The toe-rags broke in through his back gate, smashed the wood around the lock on the shed and stole his locked bike (not sure what it was locked to). I'm assuming they're local and had seen him pushing the bike in after work in the evenings.
I've sent him to the "what to do when stolen" thread and we're scouring Gumtree, but if anyone comes across anything similar for a suspiciously low price please let me know.
Thanks.

Thanks all, I've managed to get a copy of the '56 Claud catalogue from the National Cycle Library downloads. Fortunately I've got the original stem and possibly original bars (which gets me out of the tough decision to whether to go for flouro carbon risers or not...). From what I can tell the hubs and BB were Bayliss and Wiley, the chainset was Charter Lea and a Brooks B17 saddle.
I've seen a few NOS Bayliss and Wiley parts around but it's a period Charter Lea chainset I'm really struggling with.
Also, I'd really like to use it out and about so I'm tempted to get clincher rims.

I've just sent my 50's Claud to the restorers and they've come back saying they're not comfortable re-chroming the fork crown (and the frame - but I can live with that) because of the age.
It seems a shame to get the whole frame restored while leaving the fork crown pitted/corroded.
Has anyone else ever had this problem?

Cheers Wheelnut - I really like the black and red too.
At the moment I'm tempted by a flamboyant/metallic BRG with cream combination, but I'm changing my mind about every 30 seconds... I'm also still unsure whether to get the lugs lined, sometimes it looks really classy and sometimes it can look a bit busy.
I've seen a few Clauds of a similar pre-Holdsworth age with two-tone banding on the seat-tube which really appeals.
Definitely going to get the dropouts (thanks Tel) and fork crown rechromed, maybe the headset as well if possible. I don't think the head-lugs would need it.
I'm about ready to send it off for restoration, once I've finally made my mind up on colour. I've heard good things about Argos, Dave Yates and Mercian. Does anyone have a recommendation?

I'm still struggling to find any more detail on the finish of the frame, but I've managed to find a few examples of similar. My current favourites are these two:

http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/bikes/cbsprint-rb.htmlI really like the metallic finishes. What do people think?!
Also, I can't make my mind up what to chrome - whether to leave the lugs un-touched and whether I should chrome the bottom of the forks and drop-outs?

After a bit of research I think I've been able to identify and date the Claud Butler (a mention is due to Hilary Stone who set me on the right path). From the frame number, I believe it to be an October 1956 Olympic Sprint - and given that the "original" Claud Butler went into receivership in that month, it could have been one of the last made.
I've also gone through and started to clean up a bag of components that came with it and although not of the same age, there's some really nice Campag bits and pieces.
Keen to restore it back to it's original condition, but other than the '55 catalogue I can't find any photos to confirm the decals and paint and what (if anything) was chromed. Next step is to start bothering people by email/phone, if anyone knows who might be able to help it would be really appreciated.

Just picked this up, plan to attempt to get it back on the road, it's a Claud Butler, but I'm not sure of the age:
Apologies for the photo. Plan to get it stripped, dink on the top tube filled, re-chromed (including the lugs if possible) and resprayed.
Came with a bag of period and later components which I hope are salvageable. Now just to find somehwere to hide it from my girlfriend...
Balls, first image too large. Trying again.

Hi there, long-time luker, sometime poster.
Over the past year or so I've been trying to improve my running - nothing too strenuous (a couple of 5K's mid-week and a longer run at the weekend) but I'm consistently struggling with shin-splints. I've tried everything I can think of: rest, ice, stretching, compression, different trainers and short of doing a Pistorious I'm completely out of ideas. If I'm honest I thinking I should just hang up the trainers for good. I've asked about it before in this thread, and thanks for the answers, but if anyone has any other ideas I'd really appreciate it?
Not against splashing out on a reputable physio or podiatrist but tried physio last year with no success so I'm a little sceptical.

Firstly, apologies if this is a stupid question, but i can't seem to find a straight answer online.
I recently got my hands on a Pioneer SA5300 which I want to connect to some KEF iq70 speakers. The amp's got two sets of speaker outputs - two 8 ohms and two 4 ohms, and the speakers are 8 ohms. Am I right in thinking that to biwire the speakers, I connect two cables to each of the 8 ohms outputs and leave the 4 ohms outputs unconnected?

I was doing 1k intervals yesterday to try and get my speed up. But I've got fucking shin splints again. Grrrr! Did three and called it quits before I made it worse. I noticed it after a 6k the weekend before, but took the week off (with a ride mid-week instead of a run), but I guess I should have taken more than a week. Will give it another week and try again. I guess....
I took a week off with shin splints before the duathlon. I iced them for 20 mins every hour (as much as I could, got some strange looks in the office for my frequent trips to the freezer for a bag of mixed-veg), elevated, and wore compression (tubigrip) all the time. I also followed these stretches/excercises I found on Runners World:
No idea which of these helped, but after 6 days I was able to complete without any pain. Not my quickest times ever, but I got round.

Almodovars, The skin i live in.. Good film. beautifully shot as ever. Great script and a fine, understated performance from Banderas.. A touch too long IMHO. Especially once the "twist" in the plot is revealed. Nonetheless one of his best films I feel.
Going to see Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy this weekend and looking forward to it
I saw this last weekend - completely agree about Banderas and the quality of the cinematography. There were some great darkly comic moments.
I thought the pacing was a bit off too, but to me it felt like it wrapped up a bit too quickly after the twist. Also, it lacked a bit of tension in the next "key moment" it felt like it was always going to happen.
Really interested in what people think about Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

Anyone here had problems with shin-splints before? I'd never had them until a few weeks ago (I upped my distances too quick). I was able to train with them until last Thursday when I had to stop after a few miles. I've iced, compressed and rested but it still aches a from time to time and is sore when touched, although there's no pain when I walk. I've got the Richmond Park duathlon this weekend and wanted to get out on a couple of light runs this week. Would you get out and run, or just rest until Sunday?

Morning again, just wanted to say a massive thanks for those who contributed to the "what to do when you're bike's stolen thread".
On Friday afternoon we found my friend's Charge Plug for sale on Gumtree, called the old Bill but they weren't particularly interested, advised us to call 999 if it was definitely his bike (waiting half an hour after accusing someone of theft would have been great fun...). So ended up calling the number on the advert and arranging to meet at Forest Hill station on Saturday morning.
After what can only be described as a very English standoff (can't say too much more at the moment), we ended up walking away with the bike.
Anyway, many thanks and its definitely worth trawling the web/posting here/searching Brick Lane...!
