I'm laying engineered wood in my hallway and thinking of installing a recessed door mat. I want to avoid having chunky trim or a thick metal matwell - can this be done without a trim (would I be asking for trouble with water/wear)?

I'm doing exactly the same thing, work starting this week.

Was extra spenny as each of the neighbouring houses have been split into flats so 4 x surveys, plus 2 x freeholders (no share-of freehold annoyingly) which pushed back work by 6 months.

I keep telling myself it's worth it for peace of mind.

I thought I was missing something when looking at the old filter (which they can't recycle as they've not set-up the facility yet). My second filter already has a hint of anchovy. Will be digging the Brita out.

I was initially pretty impressed - coffee tasted much cleaner and more rounded than tap, though I'm not sure how much better than my Brita.

I was hoping it would have an edge in terms of filter lifespan, but I'll wait to see how the replacement performs.

(In it's defense it's been pretty heavily used in lockdown.)

I get pretty hard water here (Leyton), so I didn't expect the filter to last an age but I had hoped it would be a bit longer.

I've only just ordered replacement filters, would be interested to know if new ones sort the whiff out!

The whole unit smells pretty chemically - I'm sure they had to keep costs down but it's a shame it all feels a bit cheap.

Anyone here who's using the Peak Water filter noticing a distinctly fishy smell coming from it? It doesn't seem to be affecting the taste much, but it is pretty off-putting, especially the aromatic waft of hot fish I'm currently getting from the kettle...

I've ordered a new filter in case the current one is at the end of it's life; but I'd hope I'd get more than 6 weeks out of a each cartridge, even with the additional WFH workload.

Yeah, I'm probably selling myself a little bit short. I've had a read-through and it looks pretty manageable and much more powerful/configurable than most plug and play set-ups.

After getting frustrated at webex/zoom/meet/hangouts/teams/whatever dropping every 15mins, I recently decided to switch the Virgin home-hub to modem mode and get a new router.

I've a quite a few IoT devices connected (about 20 - my alarm sensors account for most of this) plus 4 TVs/laptops. I get an average of 350mb from Virgin.

In a rush, I bought the Netgear Nighthawk R8000P in the hope it would better bandwidth across a number of devices, it advertises 55. I'm now immediately regretting it, not only does it struggle with the number of devices (my doorbell regularly loses connection) & offers very little in way of settings to manage bandwidth allocation, but it also looks like something a teenager would rub themselves against while playing CoD.

Is there a forum approvedTM router that would a) handle multiple devices and allocate bandwidth in a sensible fashion and b) doesn't require me to be CCNP certified?

Did the same at the weekend (all be it virtually) - booted up an old PC and Livedrive sprung into life. Nearly a TB of, varying quality and definitely shadily sourced, music from 2002-2011 on backup.

Turns out I'd been paying $3 a month for the privilege too.

Gave me an excuse to install Roon on trial, really impressed so far, though it seems to have only imported partial folders/albums into the library for some reason.

Can't help on the upload, don't really know Apple stuff these days - I take it you need to load into iTunes to then back-up into iCloud, so can't just do a file upload from the HDD once attached?

P6 turntable with Rega Elex-r, Rega Apollo-r and Cambridge Audio CXN V2 with Harbeth M30.1 speakers. QED XT25 speaker cable and Rega interconnects.

Love it as a set-up. The Apollo can at times do weird things to the mix (especially anything electronic) and the CXN is ok, but otherwise the P6/Elex-r and the Harbeths are amazing.

The open design really suits the sound from the Harbeths, huge mid-range.

Quite like that, though given the amount of DIY I've already got on the list it'll be few months until I get round to it! Might have to just stick a few bits of foam around the room for the time being.

I'm pretty jealous, I've finally unpacked mine and it's looking basic (though the "wood" floor looks less gammy than in real life). I'm waiting for party wall, building control, etc etc etc to open up the room, but in the meantime it's a 12' x 12' echo chamber.

Other than buying a load of rugs and egg boxes, does anyone have an options for cheap semi-temporary sound proofing?

Can get 32' sq of wedge acoustic foam tiles on Amazon for £40 which seems reasonable (I really don't mind about how it looks at the moment).
