so me and @princeperch of this parish installed a wood burner in my place last weekend.
i had the option of getting up onto the roof and putting the liner in but for the marginal difference in cost between paying a bloke and hiring the ladders it was an easy decision to go with a roofer and send him up there. he was shoving the liner down whilst we were pulling and sending signals back to the guy on the roof. we had a few nervous moments when the liner got stuck but it was a relief getting it all the way down. the living room looked like a bomb hit it afterwards.
anyway learnt a lot and had a lot of fun in the process. just need to get building control in to sign it off. nevertheless it was well worth the effort and i'm enjoying the wood burner. any questions / advice @princeperch is the man.

agree. when i had my loft conversion done i walked around the whole neighbourhood knocking on doors. a lot of them were tenants unfortunately but those that were owner occupiers were more than happy to offer up advice and give rough costings. never ventured nothing gained and all that. then i got about 8 guys to quote.

we put down some cargo type netting (basically similar to the type of netting you get when you buy a bag of satsumas from the supermarket) but stronger and more plastic like. apparently they dont like the texture of it so don't go near it. doesn't look very nice having it out the front but thought it's worth a try. the issue this morning was that we put it over the plants and soil and covered most of the slate chippings and left a thin strip of about 20cm wide and a cat still managed to place one right where there wasn't any netting! now i can't get my wheelie bins out without dragging a load of cat poo across my front path! #firstworldproblems

i've put a small flower bed in (like 1ft deep) along the underside of the front wall and the rest of the flooring is that fancy plumb slate (but bigger chippings). they keep going in the soil and flicking all the soil and crap over the chippings. other gardens are a complete tip and they dont bother going in there, just my nice new garden :-(

anyone know how to get rid of cats shitting all over my front garden? at first it was quite funny that they decided to take an interest but now it's getting very tiresome. it's now at the point where the smell wafts into the living room through the front window when its open! i've tried the repellent powder stuff and also orange peel but this isn't deterring them. any other ideas? the smell is awful.

wow sorry to hear about everyone's collarbone issues. my break took ages to heal and i've only just got back on the bike after 5 months off. put a stone and a half on as well in the process.
my break didn't heal as well as most. according to the scan it was only 25% healed after 3 months. by that stage it should be well healed. so i am using exogen ultra sound treatment each night for 20minutes to try and encourage the bone growth. i can't feel anything when it is in use but apparently it is working.
anyway i'm back on the bike now and getting my strength back. all in all it was a really bad experience and i feel for everyone going through the same. some people are just better at healing than others. that's something i just had to deal with after hearing my mate get back on the bike after 6 weeks!
just don't get frustrated and in the long run you'll be alright.
well when you say install the liner...my roofer (keith 07939312173) was on the roof feeding it down the chimney and me and @princeperch were pulling it down. keith then fitted the cowl on the chimney pot whilst he was up there. princeperch and i fitted the liner to the stove and did the rest.
i'd highly recommend keith. everyone else i tried was giving me a hard time saying it had to be done with scaffolding and i was getting crazy prices for that.
keith had no issue with running it up on ladders and was a really decent bloke who didn't complain or give me any grief whatsoever. more than happy to help out and hung around for a chat afterwards a well. he charged £80 for the hour or so it took. well worth the money
