Entertaining... Not sure it counts as a fail though?
Amazed this isn't in the thread, although I may have missed it as some posts still show blank to me:

It's worth looking in TK MAXX from time to time, picked up a Helly Hansen Merino wool base layer down from £44 to £19. 'Technical Socks' are usually half price also.
The Helly Hansen with Merino wool is good for when it is very cold, too hot though when just mild.
Good call.
Also try m&s - i found a good merino there last year after getting vouchers at xmas. They look a bit grandpa, but as they're out of sight then that doesn't matter.

Re: stretching... Probably been posted elsewhere before, 'dynamic' stretching before a ride will help. This means stuff like walking on the balls of your feet progressing up to exagerated ministry of funny walks style marching. This naturally warms up the muscles used for cycling.
Static stretching is more appropriate for after your ride.
I rarely bother with either.
Re: spinning - stick a cadence sensor on your bike and see over time you can spin faster without 'bouncing' off the saddle. Yes this can be done on the little ring of a geared bike too, but temptation is to change gear then!
I'm riding 63.5 ish [40x17 on 26 wheels] iirc on my ss bodge bike. Will go up in length when i build the claud butler up i reckon as i spin out loads on the easy gear.
N82 post so if you find any typing/terminology errors you can keep them. Ta. :)

What about the rest of the w.mids away from brum? Are they just lazy? I'm seeing more cyclists in Cov these days, but drivers can be very aggressive and it does help to know the assertive riding stuff otherwise journeys would be hell, so it's definitely not going to grow quickly without outside help.
There's murmurs i've heard of developing cycling more in solihull - they've a new track up at tudor grange for crit races and training, plus it could be small enough area to work on making cycling a more attractive way of travelling day to day...

- Roberto isn't in Birmingham, but pisstaking etc is just what the forum is like.
- MessenJah types a lot of shit (no offence, but you do :)).
- You should've just come wearing what you normally wear when on your bike (although nobody really wears lycra, although you do see a few helmets).
- It's not about looking the part anyway. I look like a bag of shit most of the time.
- What 'rules'?
- HTFU.
Just come along on the next ride. Doh!
Cheers, that's more like it. I get the pisstake bit, just tired and grumpy here tonight. Re rules, fair play...

^When has anybody discouraged you from coming along?
It was a good race. Thanks Graham.
No one discouraged me, however, are you telling me the pic of the dude on the trike wasn't a piss take given my questions about any rules? That's the same question to which there was no other helpful answer given, just a vague acronym?
I don't want spoon feeding, just a nod in the right direction might help.

Just add to the relevant thread to give it a little 'bump'.
Then you get other users flaming you for bumping old threads! I've seen an example of that today...
My best advice to newbies is to understand that you can't please everyone, so try your best to piss off as many as you can. It's only a forum.

Nice wheels, where'd you get them? Do they count as fixie or direct driveie?
Hope you had a good alleycat, i opted for my local club ride to work with some beginners & improvers... Yes, believe it or not there are some branches of cycling that actually support and encourage those new to them, regardless of age and previous experience.
Maybe there's some folks like that in the w.mids fixie scene too?

Met Amy @ the peace house last sat and she mentioned this - hope to be there.
